Import vs Non-import
#1
From my previous posting it seems I can save bucket loads buy buying an import. Are there any problems with insurance / warranty / resale if I buy an import? Is there any way to check a non-subaru dealer is trying to sell me an import vs a UK car (ie chassis numbers?)

Unless they're pulling an extremely dodgy stunt the service book will be in Dutch/German/French etc. Although you can get a UK manual it isn't possible to get a UK service book for the import.
There was some discussion about being able to tell an import from the chassis number. I *think* you can:
Mine is

I think that the KD or the Y gives it away as an import, but this is a memory from about a year ago.

Insurance - Exactly the same
Warranty - 1 year must be provided by law, 2nd/3rd by third party or from Belgium importer will require cost to be claimed back.
Resale - Privately maybe only 10% lower than a UK car, but not as easy to sell to a Subaru dealer! After 3 years resale will be the same anyway!
Find a good importer or do it yourself... Belgium seems to be the place to go at the moment!
