Question

Hi!

I'm suffering from a plastic rattle coming from somewhere behind the front panel...it appears when the engine gets working (and vibrates), revving it at acceleration or when downshifting. Most oftenly at around 3000 rpm...

A friend of mine has the exact same sound...anyone that has experienced this?

Not that particular rattle, but I have had various trim rattles from different parts of the dashboard and doors which have come and gone - each one usually lasts a week or so. The passenger side front door is the current offender. Is this common? I've had the front speakers changed, so the door has been dismantled and reassembled.

For a car that's been in the top two in the TG/JD power survey for three years I'm quite unimpressed - has anyone else's car given this trouble?

Andy.

Andy,

I have a 2500 mile MY00 and I have a rattle from the rear nearside passenger door....bit surprised, but not that bothered...I just turn Metallica up a notch or two on the CD player!!!!

Jamie

PS. Metallica and Scoob driving doesn't necessarily go well together.....it does bring a slight agression to one's driving!!

Mine does the same thing - front off side plastic rattle.
Check some of the fixings of the front bumper.

It could be the brake pipes on the bulkhead (old problem)or the air vents in the dash. Try moving them around when you hear the noise for the latter.

Also sometimes the plastic splash proof sheets in the door panels can flap about so try and stick them down (bluetack works well)behind the door panel.

Cheeky Jim - I too have a similar rattle - very annoying when the music goes quiet! I really must get someone to drive around with me in the back, but can't prise my hands off the steering wheel!

My pasenger side rear door also rattles, mines an MY98. Just needs taking apart and looking at I guess. My drivers side front is also rattling but that's because the speaker crossover has become unstuck

The middle storage bit of the dash also rattles. Takes ages to track down if you don't have a passenger

Cool

Hi

I had this prob which was sorted out the other week by my dealer.
Said it was the brake lines against the bulk head. Realigned and padded.
Good as gold now.

I had 3 rattles in my P1..
the first was the Sony CD player...now changed and not rattling.
the second was the passenger hinge strap...now oiled and not "creaking".
the third was the panel on the "b" pillar...removed and re-positioned...
all this was done by my (excellent) dealer and a nice man from Subaru UK after I wrote to them (and copied Prodrive in) and complained about poor build quality!
