Near death experience......

The salesman from the TVR dealership in south Wales told me that they never allow test drives unless the roads are dry, due to an unfortunate incident with a cerbera in the wet. I managed to pirouette mine (V8 S) at a r/a on the way to Demon Tweeks for a change of rear tyres.

burfy, top tip:
You should watch out when the salesman says "keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle, remain seated, hold on tight - here we go!".
"Scream if you want to go faster, baby".![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

Went for a test drive in a month old TVR Tuscan on saturday...1,200 miles on the clock and bl**dy gorgeous looking! Anyways, the dealer jumped into the driving seat "to take me to a nice stretch of road". I have owned a TVR before (a chimaera) and I have a P1 now so I what it's like to drive a quickie...He attempts to pass a slow car at about 60 mph..misses 3rd gear, slams it back into 2nd, and ends up spinning the thing down the road,up the kerb, down a slope and into a 20 ft ditch and finally, into a tree....one dead Tuscan...2 bruised people....I'll stick with the P1 then!

He didn't look like John Travolta, did he? Were you being chased by several large black SUV's firing automatic weapons?
Joking aside though...
JEEZUZ! Call "Claims Direct", you could be more famous than Declan Swann

Had a simmiliar exprience (without the ditch and tree part) in a Dodge Viper,
back in 1996 when I was in L.A I rented an NSX, when I came to pick it up I saw they had a Viper in lot,
so I asked the guy if he can take me for a spin,
he agreed and while driving in third gear he wanted to show me the power of the V-10 underneath so he shifted to second gear,
the rear end started shifting from side to side violantly until he managed to slow down,
my conclusion don't get into such a car with someone you don't know anything about his driving skils.

At the end of the day this is why most people are happier with FWD or AWD, RWD is there to catch you out.
Better driving experience yep, but IMHO should be for the track, not the public highway.
robski
p.s. glad your ok though

I've had this experience with an AC Cobra... downshift then crunch into the pavement... I was the passenger, and taller than the rollbar, brown pants moment or what!
I'm never going in a Cobra again!
Simon.

i provided a friend of my then girlfriend with a similar experiance. Quick spin in an Elise a couple of years back - very wet & a bit icy so i was taking it really really easy. Coming out of a roundabout, 40 limit, must have been doing 25 - 30 (no seriously...), back end slides round, lift off, slide the other way into a lamppost.
Totally destroyed the car, front clam shell mashed, chasis dented underneath. I didnt realise they were made from paper mache....
We climb out of the wreckage and have a chat with the driver of an astra who had just done the same 50 foot up the road (someone should have been waving yellow flags....). Turns out there's a nice mix of ice & diesel on the exit of the round about...
While we're all waiting on the tow trucks turning up, a vectra or similar executed a lovely 360 spin right in front of us. Luckily for her she didnt make contact with the street furniture.
oh well, funnily enough they didnt want a quick spin in the integra...

Similar experience in an MX-5. Coming off roundabout - diesel and water - reversed up high kerb at low speed. The back wheels where off the ground, so I ran back up the road, flagged cars to slow and called police. 5 mins later, police arrive, hit diesel and spin off into MX5 - totalling the front end. The back only suffered a scratched bumber. While the police where trying to extract the necessary stuff from the boot (acident sign etc) a bus hit the diesel and totalled the police car. You had to laugh
