102 octane fuel
#1
I want to try 102 octane in my myo2 wrx. Would i need to make any precautionary adjustments to my engine ecu, etc. before i fill up? would there be a noticeable performance increase? Is there any risk of damaging the fueling system/pump?
thanks

I assume you're talking about 102Leaded/Low-Lead? You'll have to get rid of your cats. And expect to change your lambda sensor at about 30,000km...and replace your plugs at half the recommended distance...but it's worth it...
Most of us down here use it. Why are you not on saiog? Go to www.subaruclub.co.za and join the list...there's a list and a bb, but the list is a lot more active...or go to www.yahoogroups.com, and join saiog.
No ecu problems...you might want to reset it when you fill up with 102RON, though - for it to be able to start making full use of the higher octane sooner...
102 Unleaded should not be a problem...if you can get hold of some...

Please correct me if wrong but...
I was under the impression that MY01 onwards ECU's adjust dynamically to fuel ratings and therefore do not need reseting to get the most out of higher octane fuels???
(My dealer told me this and they are well into Scoobs in the proper way!)
Mak.

can take up to 3 driven runs, to "learn" the ECU, thats why some guys use "reset", the other way is to "fool" the car. Try inserting key, switching the ignition on,turning off, removing key, for times in succession, then the car thinks you have driven it 4 times, so resets memory
