I'm a standard backbox discriminator!!!

I was wondering how everyone else afforded all these mods (I mean, I'm not that badly paid), but then it occurred to me that doing 30k miles a year means that I pay £400 a month for fuel and have my car serviced four times a year. If I did half that mileage I could afford a backbox every month...
Carl (standard backbox -- probably won't upgrade until can afford a full system)

Not being loaded but reasonably comfortable I would rather spend the cash on decent rubber or servicing (or even just putting SUL in it). If the standard exhaust needs replacing I will definately get a 'sports' box but remember - it ain't the car that makes the driver fast but the driver who makes the car fast (within reason)

I used to have a standard BB and planned to spend the money elsewhere but then met up with 14 other Imprezas all with uprated BBs and my plan went a bit wrong!!!
When we all went to leave all the cars were started up and because my standard BB was so quiet the only way I could tell my car was running was by blipping the throttle and watching the rev counter.
I am now the owner of a second hand SS BB (only £150) and the car sounds sweet (although a bit noisy when I get home late at night!).

Ah but maybe the owner wants a bit of piece and quiet sometimes because his OTHER car is an eardrum shattering Elise.
When in the Elise I look around at all these 4 door boxy saloons with their carpets and creature comforts and think, pff not a REAL enthusiast....

Whenever i see another Scoob on the road, and i notice it's still running a standard backbox, i say to myself "Pah, can't be a true enthusiast, get with the picture mate".
Am i alone? Is this really bad?

Tel,
I had a standard back box on my STI for the whole time I had the car. Did loads of miles each week, and the cabin noise would've really got on my **** if I'd have had a performance box or system.
Some of those cars might be lease or company cars too. The owners may not have a choice.

OK, I've changed my wheels, backbox, spoiler, clear indicator lamps, front badge, but I wouldn't call myself an enthusiast. When I see the real mods people do, engine, brakes, that's what I would call going for it.

hmm,
so far spent money on bakes, fuel, new wheels, fuel, more pads and fuel.
Would love to get a sporty bb, but then I'm sure my insurance would love it too with the extra premium. Also do far too many motorway miles.
I'm happy polishing my twin pea-shooter - for the time being.
