Well, the wait is finally over. After trading in my Sport two weeks ago, I collected my first Turbo (MY98) last night. No major mods - just quick-shift/leather and alarm. Found myself looking at exhausts though during the wait!

Was suprised how different it felt all round, (not just the obvious performance) but clutch travel and quick-shift all feel so much more positive.

The smile on my way to work this morning was certainly bigger !!

Congratulations !! Just be sensible for the first few weeks or you might find yourself in uncharted car sliding/spinning land!

Cool

What WILL happen is a large indent to your wallet for fuel and the Sunday morning trip to the papershop will become a 10 mile blast just for the fun of it

Nice one Mr B.

Are you going to start a sweepstake on how long it takes for you to get a new exhaust?

Not long I'd wager!

Welcome to turbo land.

A word of warning watch your oil level on the MY98 or you could start experiencing Overboost as I did.
Ensure the oil is no higher than half way up the stick while cold on a flat surface.

Happy driving

Cheers

Thanks for the advice... will take it steady the first week or so!

Neal - nice one, thanks. Will check the level and make sure it’s not over filled when serviced.

Any pointers on exhaust, been looking into the SS backbox.

Find yourself a dirty great car park and do all the things that you want to do in the car and not have to worry about hitting anything

Sounds a little extreme, but I tried this a couple of times when I was new to turbo cars to get a feel of the car and what it will do under some stick.

NM, could you or someone else elaborate on this please?

"A word of warning watch your oil level on the MY98 or you could start experiencing Overboost as I did.
Ensure the oil is no higher than half way up the stick while cold on a flat surface."

Russssssssssss

Run a search for overboost threads and you will get loads of info on the bugger.

In general (from what I understand !!!!!!)

Overboost is generally experienced while accelerating between 3k5 and 4k5. you suddenly feel as if you have hit something or slipped a gear as the engine briefly cuts out then continues. A bitch when overtaking.

Oil vapor works its way to the boost cut off sensor area. There is a restrictor that is basically a fine tuned washer. Once this is contaminated with oil it reduces the size of the restictor which in turns tricks the sensor into seeing more boost than ECU will allow. Thus as a safety device the ECU briefly shuts down the engine.

To reduce this effect always ensure your oil is below half way and I have to regularly clean out my pipes and sensor to prevent a repeat performance.

I usually know when the pipes require cleaning when I start experience overboost on moist days due to the density of the air.

I hope this helps.

Remember this is what I have experienced and understood of other threads I have read !!!!!!

Cheers NM, much appreciated.

Didn't know about the boost sensor and oil contamination. Mine isn't a scooby, but the same principle will apply, I'm sure.
Will be checking it pronto, 'cos last time I had the amal valve off, the pipes did have a little oil in them.

Incidentally, the car is suffering from an intermittent misfire at the mo, but only really under high boost. Has been hard to trace!

Cheers
