Lotus Elise - hairdressers car?? Discuss...

Open top cars are girly cars?
A few F1 drivers might disagree.
Anyways... unless your name ends in
-kinen
-kankunen
then there far moer exciting cars you could be driving than Scoobies
Clios for starters.

I own a Lotus 340r and an EVO6 gsr and a friend of mine owns an elise 111s and a Scooby WRX.
In the last 2 years between us we've owned a lot of other cars but ended up with these combinations.
We both decided that if funds allow you have to have a lightweight (elise or caterham variant) and a 4wd saloon (EVO or Scooby) to pretty much cover all your motoring needs. (until funds allow for the Zonda !)
As far as a w/e country blast in decent weather is concerened or a dry trackday, the elise/340r is much much more involving and stimulating than the EVO/Scooby and more of a drivers car and harder to drive. Ultimately its a lot more fun. The elise variants can be tuned to whatever so hairdressers cars they aint and well driven on a circuit they are veeery quick.
But saying all that, we both love our scooby/evo as much. They are a very different car and better in different scenarios. Sterile, uninvolving and half-removed maybe be also so highly competent and reassuring. And they do the kids & shopping etc.. and keep the rain out ;-)

Type RA's had no ABS I think you'll find..
Bloke over the road from my old mum's drum lives @ home with his retired parents, washes his Elise a lot 'n' drives it when it's dry enough Seems like a nice boy though.. [/quote]
You either get ABS or water spray
I have a MY00 WRX Type RA WRC LTD Edition which has ABS but no water injection. They seem to make the specs up sometimes esp. on the the LTD editions as mine has alcantara seats, air con , 74F paint and full electric pack. BUt no side skirts, no noise suppression , rock hard pink suspension, close ratio box and an RA badge on the back .
cheers

Just usual jealousy from the Scooby brigade that they have to trundle round in a souped-up rep-special with go-faster stripes whilst us Elise owners actually drive sports cars.
Think I'll continue prefer my S2 with it's looks to die-for rather the myopic myxamotoid rabbit look of the Scooby !
Mind you, if I ever do take up ram-raiding or armed robbery I'll know what car to do it in !

I used to run one of the Lotus Elises a year or so ago whilst working for the local Lotus dealer. They are not as much of a hairdressers car as you may think! 0-60 in 5.5 secs from 118bhp and no turbo lag
As a year round car - not a hope in hell of me owning one. But, as a weekend car - simply suberb!!
Finally to quell any blow-dry rumours, you only need to spend 2000 pounds to get 190 brake from a car that weighs 693kgs (Remember, power/weight ratios of this nature are seriously in the supercar league!)

This subject pi55e5 me off a bit.
What makes a Hairdressers car? Am I right in thinking it has to look pretty but go, well not so well? Or is it I suspect a little jelousy?
BTW I drive a girlie RWD mid engined 2 seater MR2, not a farmers wagon that has visited a max power live show

There is no way the Elise is a Hairdressers car. Just sit in one (or try to get in one ) let alone drive it - it is about as far from coiffure's transportation as they come.
The MX-5/MGF/MR-2/Z3 - yes, a hairdryer and crimping scissors come on the options list but not the Elise!
Granted, compared to a Caterham, the Elise seems positively luxurious and flabby, but the Elise still makes the Impreza look like a reps car from a drivers perspective
PWR is the key, but so is overall curb weight - the lighter the car, the faster it corners, quicker it slows, quicker it goes
Plus don't forget, even a standard Elise has a greater PWR than a Std UK WRX
Elise - c170bhp/tonne
WRX - c155bhp/tonne
But then the Caterham fireblade has 325bhp/tonne AND costs £4k less

Having followed an Elise around 3 sisters circuit, watching it rotate **JUST** infront of my bumper I can safely say he wasn't a hairdresser. Although back in the paddock he certainly needed :-
A hairdresser (After removing his helmet)
Dry cleaners to clean his racesuit after seeing a Scoob smoking its fronts in his peripheral vison during his rotation.
ABS for hairdressers... err I think not. I've put my fuse back in

Ridiculous.
I now have both (as of yesterday when I picked up the Impreza) and it is already blindingly obvious a real driving enthusiast will go for the Elise keys every time.
And no, I really don't want a Ferrari.
And if there was a non convertable Elise at the time I would have bought that instead, but Elise drivers don't get a choice.

The Supercharged Lotus 340R gives you a good 400bhp/tonne
No slouch for a hairdressers car.

Having watched the Caterhams compete up Harewood Hillclimb I think I'll stay with my ABS, 4WD thanks...
A Caterham on the limit looks some what scarey. I've never admitted to being able to drive with any skill..... Never will..
Mark.
(3nd in Class at Harewood Hillclimb )
