I had the same reaction going from my UK to RA, brutal was the only word to describe it LOL. That old UK brings back happy memorys though, it was cracking motor in Subaru racing red and a Q car when I had it.

Yeah, I can imagine
As I have always said to my boy (Mole) Its quite quick, our one that is (285bhp) but there is ALWAYS someone quicker
Scoobs aint Q cars any more are they? Except perhaps Legacy estate with the go-faster goodies
Any way, gives me something to aim for...wish list is growing

They were still relatively rare back in 98, I guess the secrest out I saw 6 bug eyes today but no classics. I even smiled at a woman in DMB WRX MY02 today but I dont think she was impressed . Dodgy bloke in an old shape impreza with a loud exhaust .

Legacy estate is the ultimate q-car, especially with some mods.
Just ask Mr 328ci that got pushed along the a405 last week by some weird looking dark estate car....

If I had 9500 quid I'd be up the turbo shop, then the link shop, then the defi shop; then the spoiler shop; then the equal length header shop, then the fuel pump shop, then the ........
LOL, I really like the Q car thing, especially when you stuff someone
Believe it or not, I had a 1969 Landrover with a V8, it used to accelerate like billio...good fun when the 'must get in front' types had a go
Only did 65mph though

MD, have you been in an STi V Type R, Re-evaluates the word quick. My mate has a totally (and I mean totally) standard one, and it is as quick to 90 as my 330 bhp 94 WRX. That short gearing makes them very quick at real world speeds, ok they run out of puff at 140 mph, big deal, how often do you go over that sort of speed, compared to 0-90?

It's the gearing that makes it quicker
I saw you blasting down the A228 yesterday when we was out for a walk yesterday artnoon. We were the poor buggers trying to cross the road by the roundabout

I'm a little confused? Assuming the STI V was standard and on optimax with some booster it would probably make about 270-5 of its 280 horses. Your car is 285 on optimax (i assume) so they should have been there or there abouts? I appreciate the V has shorter gearing but surely when both cars have the same power it can't make yours feel slow??

Trouble is all UK owners think that imports only get 276bhp on 100 RON fuel and there UK models get 240bhp on NUL or 280 bhp with a decat and PPP . Whatever my UK 98 had my RA feels like it has at least 100bhp more .

No but it has been proven time and time again that on Optimax, full decat and TEK3 type set up the UK is good for 270-80bhp.
I'm not wanting to start an argument I just don't understand how Moles Dad felt such a difference if the V was standard. Perhaps it was how the car 'felt' as opposed to how it actually performed.

Saxo hows it been proved on a rolling road or engine dyno ? You can affect a RR figure by the amount of air in your tyres . How come Subaru say a car has 215bhp and a standard one makes 230 on a RR who do you think is right, the one with the biggest numbers . They are useful however for showing differences between mods and for picking up detting and fueling problems and for taking down the pub.
I would be less dubious if all RR were roughly the same but some are vastly different from others for standard cars, so as customer who do I believe ????

They are different in setup as well mine has the VF29 turbo where as the STi V5 has a VF28 (very similar to a VF29) and a UK has a TD04 or 05. There is difference in lag and different mapping and a n STI goess to 8000+rpm but they both have the lovely burble .
Different feel definitely, better in some ways yes in others no. You really have to drive one IMHO but a standard 5 Versus a well modded UK I agree on paper performance wont be that dramatic how it delivers it though, there maybe.

Sorry boys, been very busy
As was said, Toby's car is running a Link ecu with APS cold air and obviously mapping
Mega, sorry mate didnt see you
I was passengered in the car, up about 4 miles of Surrey lanes....it semmed to pull and pull and pull
Things were a wee bit higher up the rev range and it was still pulling (not just pretending to) at 8k
I think with full Leda and all the Defis etc it was a *full* experience, with my UK car it is still in the 'evolution' stages.
I would say that the V was making big torque, and thats what you *feel* as a passenger
JB, consider ? I HAVE considered Its on the wish list, along with all the other 'must haves'
Rolling roads...well we all know they have their differences, I just reckon using the same one to compare power increases of mods is a good relative gauge ???
Thanks all for your input, Moles Dad (sulking in the garden )

Hello Tony
Yeah, Toby told me about yours, he reckons you is a silly billy not putting that Link in
Must admit, that car looks the absolute dogs now...the front lip really finishes the front off.
Hope you feel ok, see ya soon
