I'm getting rather odd behavior from my car when i pull away quickly with the wheel turned. I'd assumed that with the 4WD the car would behave a bit more like a front wheel drive car when pulling away quickly with the wheel turned quite sharp.

I've noticed it more when i pull out at one particular junction on the way home from work (on a hill, and i'm turning up it). The car always seems to plough straight forward towards the opposite kerb. If i get the car rolling just a little before giving it some welly then it turns fine.

Being new to this 4WD thing i was just wondering if this is normal?

The car is a 94 WRX wagon.

cheers,

Marty.

Marty,
Scoobs are more rear bias in terms of power delivery, its something that you can get use to though without much trouble (you can have a go at changing tyre pressures to suit your needs too )
Scoobs do have a tendancy to be tail end twitchy too, just dont try braking in corners
Keeping the power down is normally the way to keep the car in check (even if its only a little power) and this too should reduce the car heading for the opposite curb )

Cheers tony,

Just glad to know that it's normal and not something else wrong with my car.

Not too worried about the twitchy rear end though. Used to driving a 240bhp S13 200sx in the West coast of Scotland (probably the wettest place on the planet).

You can get antilift kits to "as far as I'm aware" reduce this problem. I've had some really hairy moments due to this

I have heard of these anitlift kits. What are they and do they reduce some of the twitchy nervousness in the rear when braking?

I think what they do it attach something to the rear suspension that prevents the car pivoting around the rear axles. There is a bumpsteer mod as well, which "I think" stops the twitchy back end (trail braking???), which is a AWD characteristic.

Someone with one hundred billion posts will no doubt fill us all in soon, unless you can be arsed to trawl through the search facility.

Not a hundred billion posts yet....

The 'bumpsteer mod' fixes the built-in tendency to understeer. As delivered the car allows the outside front wheel to go slightly wider than the inside front wheel (as the outside suspension is compressed). The mod changes the position of the steering rack to make this change of wheel position neutral.

Hmmmm reading that it doesn't sound very clear...

What you need to know is that IT WORKS !! Can't recommend it too highly.

As for the anti-lift kit, I'll let someone with a hundred billion posts handle that.
