"My diesel Subaru"
#1
Today's Currant Bun page 19. Some crafty Welsh members are using cooking oil (32p litre) plus a shot of methanol to run diesel cars. This is against the law as one is not allowed to drive on the road without paying fuel duty.
Eh? Why, if the duty isn't levelled on the fuel you use? Sounds trumped up to me. Fair enough if you use petrol/diesel and just avoid the duty, but if your vehicle runs on a different fuel, I don't see what they can do.
Anyway, a geezer is quoted in this piece as saying "I halved my costs when I started running my diesel Subaru on cooking oil. The car runs jsut as well and even smells better".
Two questions spring to mind
1) What diesel Subaru is he running? (news to me).
2) Will it invalidate his warranty with IM?

If the veggie oil is a food product only for human consumption, then it is not liable for duty. AFAIK, they cannot charge tax on food products regardless of what you use them for.
Not all oils are labelled as foor human consumption only though, so choose carefully. Adding the methanol for whatever reason may make create complications for duty free driving
