Once upon a time........... the scoob was almost invincible for the price.

Now others are catching up and passing the scoob and alot of us are drawn into defensive arguments defending our piece of worshipped tin can. We quake in our shoes when EVOs loom in our mirrors and greet the arrival of the Focus RS with a nervous twitch ....

I, like most on here, enjoy driving and often drive 50-100 miles at night just for the sheer hell of it. The car is pushed hard and driven to the best of my abilities.

My point (finally), I don't need my car to be faster/better/more reliable than 'mr other marque'. I'm just happy that I have a car that's more than capable of fulfilling MY daily driving requirements and brings more smiles than any other car I've owned.... so I think we should all rest easy on this one and just be smug!

PS Not busy at work today.... before I get flamed for making what is no doubt an obvious point that probably need not be said in the first place...!

Hence why I drive an MR2, and still haven't changed to a Scoob after over 2 years on Scoobynet

Can afford one now, but the MR2 meets all the criteria I have at the mo.

Just wish it was a bit faster

Spot on SiPie.

Which is exactly why I ran an '89 Celica until it died then replaced it with a '99 scooby. In three years time when the Focus RS is half price I might get one of those, then again I might keep the scoob.

Also as with all products, technological advances come into play whether it be major components or purely in manufacuring processes. All these factors may have an effect on things like bhp, weight saving, better road handling. Also you have to remember that you get more car for your $ due to the comsumer having more choice. At the end of the day the Impreza will be superceded as other manufaturerers try to take business away from Subaru.

I agree sipie. I loved the saxo but was annoyed by the wet weather performance, the affect sticking other peeps in it had on acceleration and the twitchy nature through the corners. The scooby was the logical choice to sort these

I get a little annoyed at the likes of Cossie say I'm a little tw@t that wouldn't know a fast car if it hit me in the face but I made the best choice for my circumstances IMO. For example: When I was buying my car Andy F was talking of selling his (talk of supra's, etc) I'm sure if I'd wanted to I could have made him a healthy offer and talked him into letting it go and then I'd have for about the same money as my car - maybe less an 11.8 second 1/4 car. So why didn't I??? Well, as much as I love and respect Andy's car I hate the interior and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit its not really designed for day to day use with gauges and readouts taped to the dash. Whats more, whilst it seems to be holding up well to his tuning ways I'm not sure how it would cope with 25k miles a year chucked at it. The bottom line is I wasn't just looking for monster performance and I don't have andy's knowhow to keep his car alive. Simple as that cossie
