Im considering buying a subaru impreza WRX/STI.
What are the pro's and cons of the pre and post 97 wrx and sti versions.
Are they much faster/slower
Handling?
Interior?
Wheels?
Brakes?

Thanks in advance

Scott

prefer the look of the front of the post97 models.

Just a personal preference. Don't know about performance / handling as have never drivin a pre97. Although can't imagine too much difference.

Whatever you get you'll be WELL CHUFFED with NJOY

If you buy a 97 or 98 make sure it doesnt have piston slap.

Example of my96 vs my97:

same bhp roughly
240 vs 260 lbs ft torque
2 pot vs 4 pot brakes
better front end styling on 97
red bits on the seats of 97
97 has better sound insulation (a bit)
97 has carbon fibre effect bit on the dashboard
97 has better intercooler
Not sure about suspension, but I think the 97s is better
97 has smoother turbo pick up, less of an on/off power delivery
97 a little bit heavier due to the above.

Agree, check for piston slap on 97 and 98s.

Earliest my97 you can get would be a 96P reg Sti 3.

Hope this helps

Mike

Cool

Driven a couple of scoobies. Got a MY94 and driven a MY98 UK and an STi of similar ages.

Between the UK cars there probably isn't that much of a difference all out performance wise but there is more of a rush (and lag) in the earlier ones due to the bigger turbo. The MY98 didn't seem to have the same go although it was probably a little easier to drive without "going for it" if you know what I mean.

The STi felt a little quicker than my UK one and again had the TD05 turbo. Will find out this weekend what the difference is in power between them at the rolling road

I'd imagine that the differences would be much the same between the imports of varying ages too as they used the different sizes of turbos too.

The earlier UK cars had crap interiors (mine still does) but as far as I know the imports all had semi-decent ones right from the start.

Had a few MR2 Turbo T bars in, loved them, great in the summer, and they felt fast all the time, never got used to the power unlike the WRX/STI's.

BUT never drive a MR2 in the wet!!!!!
