Question

With so many views/gripes/observations about this year's TRAX event, how about posting a few suggestions for improvements that we as a group can do ourselves ?

Here's mine......

1.Some physical help for Stef on the day so that he gets a chance to enjoy it too. Volunteers to spend an hour on the SIDC stand doing such things as marshalling the parking, manning a Club membership desk for enquiries, merchandise etc.

2.A manned area where you can leave any baggage while you take your car on track. I stayed overnight so had a big holdall in the boot. I ended up leaving it by the TN van while I was on my shortlived track session, and another member did the same. How about a gazebo or something manned by volunteers for an hour at at time to look after bags etc. ?

3.Instant Club membership packs. You pay your £20, register your details and get the Club mag, stickers, tax disc holder etc. Maybe a special sticker for joining at the TRAX event, or a 10% discount for joining at TRAX.

Er, thats it so far. We need to make it more of a Club stand rather than a carpark for Scoobies.

This is a big event, and I think more members should help out with supporting the Scooby presence. I personally would have no problem spending an hour on a stand with a fellow enthusiast to help out other Club members, especially considering what I get out of the Club and the event in general for the very reasonable £5 entry ticket (£15 to Joe Public).

Whaddya'll think ?

Tony, what you have posted is exactly along the lines i was thinking about when i posted on returning from trax yesterday.

my other sugestion was a backup list.
In case of people not making it or what have you, a list of people you can contact at the last minute to sell parking/track sessions to.

As i know relatively few of you, those that i knew were all friendly, but i found the scoob part kinda 'cold' tbh.
I walked on loads of stands there all day and normally ended up chatting with owners bout there cars, scoob stand was the only place that didnt happen.... kinda weird when i own one!

I have no probs helping out at any event and have offered several times.

Good ideas.

Stef worked his nut off, yesterday. I spoke to lots of people and handed out membership forms/cajouled them into buying clothing , but this was nothing to the work Stef put in. He was the star and did all the work.

Perhaps next year, we can start a thread so that people with a desire to help out on a specific duty can make themselves known. On the day, no one asked me if they could help, but some may have asked Stef.

It may have looked like a car park, but there were more people coming in to look at our cars than watching the Fast Car girls get their vests off. The TV crew making the programme said Imprezas were what their viewers wanted to see

Gazebo is a good idea. It would create a focal point.

Dunno if this would be possible and wouldnt know how to go about it, but how about getting some Subaru specialists or even Subaru UK involved, they could bring some goodies along for people to drool over... also banners / flags etc....

Wots the chance of getting one of the WRC's there? Now that would be a focus point

Anyone got contacts????

Thanks guys.
I had lots of ideas for the stand, but thinking about them and actually putting them into practice are two very different things.
Everything suggested is good, and a gazebo for instant membership and merchadise sales is a definite for next year.
I would have put the cars into some kind of order if I had been in a fit state to do so!
I disagree that the area was cold though. Many owners were talking to each other and the public whilst I was there, and I hardly left the arena! It didn't get the flow of people that the clubs by the trade stands got because it was fenced in, but I think that's actually a good thing. It was a great spot, and I'll do all I can to get it again next year. Forgetting the banners didn't help either!
Some feature cars would be nice, and we will try and book the Prodrive wrc replica well in advance for next year as we were too late this time.
Big thanks to the lads form TN who did a grand job and gave the club a very professional image.
We will be holding a large Scooby event next year anyway, hopefully bringing together the largest ever gathering of Scoobs ever seen. Anyone who wants to see a particular spoiler or whatever should have no problem there!

Stef.

Hi Pete,

How do you know? you were on the FAST CAR stand with me looking at Vest's m8!!!!;-)

Another point I think all memebers should have a badge/name on them, so at least next time Stef would bother to say hello to a fellow member (me)

I didnt mean between owners when i said cold stef, i was thinking of those from outside.
My two lancia driving friends found it a bit 'chilly' in there compared to other stands, just offering some feedback.

Forgot to say, what was that tv crew filming for? (as in what programme) when i left under the tunnel all the little cars were waiting for the one in front so they could have a clear run out the tunnel trying to make some noise, i decided to do my bit for scoobydom and joined in
Didn't realise there was a crowd at the other end plus the film crew filming it all!

Should have seen there faces when i flew out the end with an incredible noise, film crew followed me all the way out round the back of the grandstand hehehehehe

I have access to a number of large frame tents that I could probably get for a day. They are ex Eurocamp ones from France and they might a good "base camp" area.

[Reposted here, instead of starting another thread!]

With some people complaining about the SIDC stand at Trax this year, I have a couple of ideas to make it a bit special! And of course I'm willing to help out anyway I can, rather than just moan (which I didn't do!)...
Visually the compound may need a little something to stop it looking like a car park! (someone elses quote, not mine!)

Some big Subaru/SIDC flags
Membership sign up section
Barbeque for SIDC members
SIDC name badges

To drum up both SIDC and public interest, what about a few contests, like...

'Tarty' Car!!
Show & Shine
Sound Off
Fastest 0-60mph
Car of the Show

These could be done at specfic times to generate both public & SIDC interest!

A draw for the SIDC members who support the event to win, bits and pieces from dealers, tuners, SIDC, etc.

Maybe a dealership will sponser the event, and display their wares, and provide leaflets and brouchres.

I don't want to seem to be offering just ideas, I'm willing to help in anyway I can to achieve this!

Andy

[Sorry if this repeats some of the ideas!]

Keep those ideas coming, I assume Stef will be keeping some sort of record of ideas and volunteers ?

Stef mentioned somewhere about a big event next year - can we have any details ? Do you need any help on the day mate ?
