I 'Thought' about being a great Mod - does that qualify?

Maybe because I give Mods something to think about entitles me also?

Pete

Edited to say:- BTT

Hi All

You may notice a few ScoobyNetPlus Members in the forums now. The Card is not officially released, but we're so close now I needed to get the software up and running.

All of the moderators are ScoobyNetPlus members which means they are entitled to discounts on all products offered in ScoobyShop (which will launch in the next few days). They also get a beefed up profile with signature, etc. (see below)

The profile will be further beefed up once the shop is up and time becomes available.

I NEED YOUR HELP

I need to get hold of any previous scoobynet moderators, and I have a memory like a seive! List them here and send them an email if you have it as I would like to offer them free membership also as a tiny tiny token of appreciation.

All the best

Simon

Two who I can remember off the top of my head are Blow Dog and Mr Cookie. Was Ian Cook also a moderator a long time ago?

Question

Quick request, since hopefully Simon will read this thread...

Can you please add an option in our profiles so we can hide other members' signatures? Otherwise, I can see it going the same way as other BBSes, where Plus members have sigs with huge images, etc, making threads totally unreadable.

Personally, I don't see the need for sigs at all, and even the SN Plus logo really only needs to go in the LHS column with the username and so on.

Would agree 100% - enormous sigs relly do nothing for readability. Even the bold, colour scoobynetplus logo now distracts the eye from the clean text of the actual contenet. Certainly dont need pictures which simply make pages very slow. Logo by Username in the left hand column would seem more than enough.

Hi All

Thanks so far...

OK, so we have...

Moray
Harj
Stef
BlowDog
MrCookie
Ian Cook
RonnieH
MarkO (are you sure!!?!?!??!!! )

(Lee Christie??? - can't remember)
(Anders??? - likewise)

anyone think of any more?

Sigs...
OK.. huge images will be a no no. They will not be stored on scoobynet so will not take up bandwidth and will not slow the site down. They may make it slower for your connection to download the image, but not the page.

If there is ANY abuse of the system, the ability to include images in your profile will be removed.

Can we give it a go, and all discuss it in a couple of months to see if it really is annoying or not?

All the best

Yeah, but it was back in the days of Phil Daws, so whether or not it counts is another matter. Since I don't want the logo in my sig, and don't own a scoob either (to buy stuff for at the scoobyshop) I guess it's not an issue.

That's exactly the point, though. They add nothing to the threads, and detract from them immensely.

Surely a better idea if people want to have a logo or something, would be to introduce the 'Avatar' concept (see my X-Type phpBB board for an example)? Then the images are limited in size, but are also kept out of the body text so don't interfere with the flow of the threads.

Can we give it a go, and all discuss it in a couple of months to see if it really is annoying or not?
Why put it to a vote (can Scoobynet do polls?). But if you're going to add the facility, can you please ensure that users who don't want to download others' sigs can have the option to hide them?

I've seen some of the range in the scoobyshop and you don't need a scoob to think 'ooohhh wheres my credit card'

Yeah? Cool. Having said that, it doesn't take an awful lot to make me think 'ooooh where's my credit card'.

I have adsl access minimum wherever I go so I think you should put these piccie things in.

Must admit it is really silly on the rsoc board.

Perhaps putting it in the margin might be a better idea. Would definitely not interrupt as much.

edited cos I have a headache - explain that one!

Agreed, an option in the margin, away from the text would be good.
At the same time, maybe we could have a car profile put in somehow.

I'm forever reading posts and Wondering exactly what scoob they have.

Surely the right place for someone to describe what car they have is in their profile? We certainly don't need to have that information in every single post when there's already a discreet little icon you can click on to find out more about someone.

Take a look at this bbs to see what happens when signatures get out of control - many people on this forum have huge pictures in their sigs that take up more space than their posts. Fortunately there's an option to turn off sigs if you're registered.

I like the fact that Scoobynet isn't cluttered up with signatures, avatars and other stuff that detracts from the content. It's currently one of the cleanest and most professional looking forums I've seen, and it's by far the easiest to read.

Please don't spoil it, Simon - at least give us the option to revert to the 'classic' look if you can. Thanks.

Andy.

Hi Andy

Sigs are out. They will be removed (hopefully) tonight.

Avatar thing is questionable. We will definitely have a PLUS MEMBER icon under the username (as in the left of this post), but I'm open for opinion on whether a selection of scoobynet approved avatar pictures which appear in the left bar (all with low garishness!!!) would be a good or bad thing.

The beefed up profile is definitely going to happen, allowing people to post pictures and specs of their cars within their profiles if they are a plus member, and that may change the profile icon to a different one to show there's more info in there.

All the best, and thanks for the feedback.. it's good to get it wrong every now and then!!

Sigs. are crap - they interupt the flow and add nothing!

If you absolutely have to have them then please limit them to the margin..........but unless you want Scoobynet to deteriorate leave them out.

Just out of interest - what is the point / benefit of them anyway ?

Ian/555,

Glad to see you have achieved scoobynetplus status.

Can you confirm that this status granted to you gratis as recognition of the contribution you made to the board in your moderating period?

I was just about begining to believe that Simon's offer and the list of recipients he had gathered and posted had been forgotten in the mists of time but then, just as hope was putting its coat on and heading towards the door, your posts appeared with the new regalia fixed proudly to them for all to see.

Regards,

Moray
