what with having a clifford the following problem occured.
left the pub pi$$ed off after last nites game, girlfriend has a *** so i open the door to start the engine, then shut it again straight away, forgetting that there is a delay of about 3 seconds when the engines started....to the doors locking. So I shut's the door, stand around for a couple of mins, while the motor warms up then go to get in. Only to find the obvious....yes the door's are locked and the engines running. now being in a relatively small carpark at 11pm with people dissappearing all the time, I start to wonder what to do.
I needed to stall the car somehow to get it to unlock the doors. There was about a quarter of a tank of petrol in it, however upon thinking about the time it would take to run out I figured it could be hours on idle.
So this is not possible anyhow, and I'm not preparing to smash glass yet. So someone else suggest's blocking the exhaust to create enough back pressure to stall the car. Now I didnt try this...but is it advisable ? ?
or would something blow up ?
In the end I had to trek to get a spare house key while a couple of ppl made sure noone broke the window and drove the car off (even tho its locked). Inside my house is the spare car key. touch !

i've done it too.On a wet and windy day in Wales 1999, up a forest track. No one else about .Started the engine to warm the car hopped out to put wet gear in the boot which was shut and the wind blew the drivers door shut.Clunk clunk goes central door locking.
In the end i had to break a window as the spare car key was in birmingham.!!!! avery drafty drive back it was too.
It is definitely the one feature i dont like as the alarm factory set rpm is set too low. If it did it at 3000 rpm there would not be an issue.
On cliffords i dont think you can alter it without a lap top and software.

sheeeeeeeeeet! exactly happened to me and my mate as well!
what we did was to get a plastic rod/pole into the car by the driver's side windows. since it is frameless, you can try to squeeze it in thru the rubber. the glass will bend a bit but not enuf to smash it!
finally managed to poke the electric window switch down![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
yes, definitely will remember to warm up the car with the windows down or someone inside!

On my Clifford, if one of the doors is open when you start it, it doesn't lock the doors. Perhaps it doesn't lock the doors if one of them is open at the point where it tries to lock the doors (as opposed to when you start it).
I'll try that as it's worth noting. What happens if you start it with a door open, does it still lock the doors?
Matt

I activated the automatic locking function on my MY99 a couple of times, but could just envisage this happening.
So I turned the auto locking off again and did it manually. No problems.

well when you start the engine theres a delay of about 3 seconds then the doors lock. all i did was open the door turn the key and shut the door. 'cept i did it so quick it then locked.
my fault really for being thick but that's how it happened.

On the sigma alarm (my99 onwards) I always thought autolock was cancelled if a door was open or opened after the engine was started. Mine does this, not that I would recomend leaving the car running whilst out of it, never know who might be about ;(

it does cancel out if any of the doors are unlocked, but for some reason there is a delay of about 3 seconds while it checks. then it locks (or doesnt if a door is still open. This is all the time it took for me to open the door, start the engine and shut it again.

You can turn this feature OFF, just look in your Cliford manual.
It's done by using the "Valet" switch....punching in a series of codes.
Have thought about doing mine, just haven't got around to it.
If you want instructions I could E-mail them to you.

As you will probably now remember, if you start it with the door open and wait 3-5 seconds before closing the door, it will never lock you out
