No sorry don't believe it and I will tell you why.
Last week we had a discussion on here about Imprezas and it was decided by the knowledgable gurus on here that it was physically impossible due to the laws of physics and the shape of the impreza that there is no way it would ever reach 170MPH so therefore this artical is obviously a fake just wish I could find the thread...

Ah lads.... its true !!! a dozen crazy Japs came over with their 300K motorway racers two years ago.. have pix somewhere... the Impreza was from JUN and did get up to 309Kph in light rain !! A video was done 'High Octane 2000' featuring all the cars.

Yep, it is tru, it was filmed near Rotorua. And yea it was on the High OCtane 2000 video, hosting by Ketzal Sterling Very good video, if you can find it, buy it. THere wer a whole lot of other 300+ cars there aswell, some crazy asian drove all the cars, and some GTR from japan hit 330. Quite scary on the wet roads. It was a 2.5L engine from a think it was an outback or a forester. Then it was just modified beyond belief, so yea, there you have it. Good effort by the Japs ay.

As speed increses, resistance due to drag and other factors is inversely proportional to the velocity. ie double the speed 4 times the drag, quadruple the speed 8 times the drag, so it isnt just a question of sticking a bigger engine in with the right gearing.
