Question

I'm buying a My98 Scooby from a local garage, it was supplied and fully serviced by the local Subura Dealer. The garage is paying for the 37500 mile service to be done by the local Scooby dealer.

My question is, the car comes with a 3 month warranty which I can extend to a total of 12 month period for £325. Should I extend the warranty or not?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dan

Question

You really need to see a copy of the warranty b4 you buy, and suss out 4 yourself what is, and what is not covered. Only then can you decide whether it's good value.
Remember that a well serviced Scoob is a reliable beast, but if it does go wrong it could cost big bucks!
As an example of warranties, I've had 2 in the last 10 years, the first, I paid for on a Sierra, and wasn't worth the paper it was written on. They argued every case, and ended up paying 50% of about 1 in 5 things that went wrong. D'oh!!
The second was from Dixon Motors, was 3 years, and was free on every second hand car they sold for a limited period. It supposedly covered everything except friction surfaces.
I'd only had the car 3 months when the exhaust fell off on the way to France, on a sunday. I was able to continue my journey, stopped off the next day at Boulogne, and got it repaired. When I got home, I submitted a claim, explaining why I couldn't use their garage, or choice of garage, and received a cheque for the full amount within 5 days!
The warranty continued like this--- they even paid for a clutch change, with me paying only the cost of the clutch parts, when my clutch wore out, as they found an oil leak at the same time, so would have needed the gearbox out anyway!
My rather long winded response is trying to say: you won't know unless you look first, and even then, you'll have to wait for something to go wrong b4 you really know if it's any good.

Thanks for the reply, I spoke to the local Subaru dealer they said, to use a company called Warranty Holdings. I called the garage and the £325 warranty is done by Warrenty Holdings. I've got to pop into the garage and sign some forms so I'll have a look at the warranty then.

If anyone has experience of warrant holdings please keep postings

Thanks again

STOP!!!!!!!!! DO NOT use warranty holdings unless you have £375 to throw away. There was a big thread a while ago regarding the company in question. They rarely pay out and basically fight most cases. Personally i wouldnt touch them. Make sure the car is completely standard because the smallest mod they find will void the whole thing. I have heard of a company called warranty wise who specialise in performance cars plus they have special packages which allow over £2000 per claim. This is only a company i have heard of, i dont know how they treat their claims.

Cheers

I've recently had the drop links on my Catalunya changed under warrenty, dealer told me it was a £300 job. As I bought it from a main dealer I've got a Subaru warrenty, it made me wonder how expensive things could get if I get problems in future without a warrenty.

I'm trying to get a steering rack under warranty at the moment. They are making it as hard as possible. I'm not with warranty holdings but they are all pretty much the same! If I can't fight them and win over the matter, it's gonna cost me £689.61 + VAT + fitting on top of the fact I paid £350 for a 5 star warranty. I feel faint again

OK, I called Warranty Wise, its £473 for a year through them.

I relised my recovery is through my old insurance so I have no recovery, so I'm gonna sign up to the AA with part and labour cover gives you up £500 towards repair. Its £12 per month for both the recovery and p+l.

Any thoughts

As i said, all their packages are pretty comprehensive. Make sure you take out labour cover coz the standard rate they pay is £26/hour. Not many scoob dealers or speciaslist cost that. It more like double that.
