Anybody know how much safer the new bugeye is over the classic shape ?

I know it's almost 200kg heavier; but what else ?

I'm wondering about the potential benefits of an STI UK and this was something else that might help justify it to myself (and not just the PPP); being that I'd like to be around when the kids grow up; and not the potential victim of someone else on the road (and yes, if I come off the road, it's my own fault).

A lot more.

Its got a built in roll cage for starters. If I recall correctly the Impreza WRX came top of its group in US safety tests(although the link to the site escapes me)

I had a nose at a cut away MY01 when it was launched at the Motor show at the NEC. All the reinforcements where highlighted in yellow - certainly much improved roll over protection as Neil says.
