Turbo timers - are they necessary?

Are turbo timers REALLY necessary?
I was led to believe that as long as you have driven at below about 2.5K revs for about 2 miles then you should be OK to shut the engine off?
My attention was drawn by the Blitz banner ad on this site, so went and had a look, they appear to have some 'added' features that don't cost that much, has anyone used one of their units?
If you have any recommendations for other makes then let me know.
Cheers,
Darren.

I've got a blitz Multi speed turbo timer. On short journeys it will keep the engine running for about 10-30 secs but I've had it up to just short of 4 mins on longer harder journeys. It's very handy cos it monitors how your driving and determines the time accordingly.
The timers ability to measure different times (0-60 1/4 mile) is great fun although I would not like to vouch for the accuracy though unless my scoob really does hit 60 in 4.1secs!!
