Coming to work today at 6:30
Scraped the ice off the windscreen trundled off to work. Came off the M5 at junction 13 and went to turn left down the A419 (I think) towards stroud, had stop at the top cause a lorry was coming then floored it down the A419.
**** me!! The car launched itself like never before
Threw me back in the seat in first then came second, same again
First really cold morning we have had this year and I love it. Now I have experinced this I am very tempted to go for a FMIC.
Anyone see driven last night? Not a bad episode but not enough on scoobys.

Good topic. I experienced -2C on this mornings run to work, hasten to add I took the longest way in I could. STi7 working better than ever. Maybe someone brighter than I could inform us of the actual rise ( or percieved ) rise in power as the temperatures lower.

I have heard somewhere that it can give up to 20bhp+?? Is this right or am i over guessing?
Gives me an idea of what it would feel like to get a hybrid turbo slapped on though.
Looking on the dyno page there is a consdierable drop in figures even from a small change in ambient temps.

I'm no expert, but here goes....
The cold is going to make the air more dense. I would guess a difference of 10-20C is going to be make it several percent more dense. And that alone should result in more air getting into the cylinder and then a several percent increase in power.
Then you have the intercooler. The difference in temp between the intercooler air and the outside air is going to be bigger, so heat transfer will be faster. That's probably going to give you a similar rise in power again.
So I reckon you could be talking about something like 5% or more difference in power between a hot day and a cold day.
On the down side the air being denser means more drag, but you won't notice that until you start going very quick.
How about that for some arm-chair engineering

Cold air is great
but its also a warning that there could be black ice on the roads so be careful or else its going to be one squashed car (AWD is good but its not THAT good
