Question

Just been thinking about the ugly cars that have been released over the years - and, of course, the disaster that was the Bug-Eye.

Why dont they poll their target buyers with a few images of design ideas? Allow the buyers/Fans to vote on what would work and what wouldnt - surely they would get it right for more than 50% of their buyers then??

We all know that the Bug-Eye Impreza wouldnt have appeared, and neither would it have a 'Bright' switch or that stupid orange reflector on the wing ............... What it would have is, Vents in bonnet (Classic style), low washer warning, delayed interior light and headlights that work!! Oh, yes, and Tarty Gold Wheels would get relegated to the low-life of the cheapest Imprezas

Pete,
"Classic" means extinct doesn't it Nothing wrong with the STi7's Bug eyes far better performing lights than the <MY00 models Not IMHO Fact

Time to move on buy yourself a decent car with standard gold wheels it will save you loads upgrading to them LOL

Matron says it's past time to put the lights out, and did you remember to take your pre senile dementia medication? (of course, you wouldn't remember though, would you )

I suppose it would depend on who they ask. Personally throw over tartan rugs and Steradent cup holders don't appeal to me just yet!

Well, Matron has woken us all up now - I thought this was a sensible question/thought as did the MODS - cos they left it here and didnt muppetize it!! I am getting better!!

So? dont you think that Subaru would have done a 'Good Taste Poll' before wasting all that poxy Gold Paint?? Surely the target audience of men, real men, would have told them EXACTLY what to do with their 'Girlie' Gold Wheels??

Been there, done that...

When I was a Lotus Elise owner, I got invited to a focus group for a new mystery vehicle (Vauxhall VX220) and got £50 in exchange for telling them that I knew what it was and wouldn't buy one.

The rough feedback from other people was:

Girl 1: "don't know about the colour" (orange)
Bloke 1: "yeah looks the part. I'd change my MGF for it" (estate agent)
Bloke 2: "I know what it is too and I wouldn't buy one" (Westfield owner)

From the pics I saw at the focus group vs. what happened to the car at launch, no changes were made.

Good point though PSL. I believe the major manufs do this all the time w.r.t. colours, styles, trim designs which is why more and more cars are looking the same.

They have a uniform for all atendees of the Subaru focus group meetings. Part of the uniform is protective glasses.

Some manufacturers do. This is the reason the new 911 will look basically like the older 993 model as this was considered by most owners to be the best looking 911 of all time.

A lot of the current owners weren't impressed by the 996 'fried egg' lights (and perhaps it looked just a little too much like a Boxster??).

Actually they asked the general public what they wanted for the last Ford Escort. It turned out cr@p of course and they had to face lift it 3 or 4 times to get it right before the Focus.

Juts goes to show that Joe public doesn't know best, he needs to be shown what's good for him.

Subaru's are designed in Japan and that's why they look like that.

Anyone else seen "The Simpsons", the episode where a member of the public (Homer!!), is let loose to design the perfect car?
