Question

Saw the new Impreza yesterday at the NEC and was quite impressed with the seats in the WRX (stayed away from the STi 'cos it would have only depressed me that I couldn't afford it) and I was pleased with the amount of support they seemed to give - but I own a Golf 4Motion currently so can't compare to other generations of WRX/Turbo's.

Would these be the new 'bucket' seat option? What else will be available?

Also, I'm fancying a MY03 WRX in Red (is it called brilliant red?), anyone seen any pictures of MY03 in Red?

Also, last question - anyone got anymore info. on prices for the new one. I can only hope that all the praise for the new Focus RS will mean Subaru will drop the price a tad to around the £20K to compete on price with the Ford.

The seats you are referring to are the bucket seats that have been available since MY98 (I think???) However these tend to be sculptured for a models frame ie 5'9" - 6'5" slim/medium build. Anyone with a lard ar$e need not apply (Yes, my side bolsters are crushed already ). If I was of a slimmer build, these seats would be bloody awesome......Blutes

I'm 6'3" and 20+ Stones. Seats are fine for me and in the Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large way of things, I take Fat B*stard size...!

The pre-May 2001 bugeyes were fitted with 'sports' seats, only press and promotional cars came with bucket seats.

I don't think IM would give a delivery date of before May 2001 if bucket seats were specified. Which basically was a great way to kill sales for the first six months of the bug eye.

From the pictures I've seen of the MY03 the buckets are either the same or similar design but maybe covered in a different material to the bug eye.

Allegely the MY03 uses better quality interior plastics too.

Come now Nigel, lets be fair...

If the MY01 is "bugeye" then MY03 has to be "blobeye"...

I have it from a reliable source that the seats on the MY03 are available as bucket seats with side airbags, bucket seats without side airbags and sports seats with side airbags.

As someone with the MY02, I had bucket seats without air bags or "sports seats" with airbags offered as no cost options. Having sat in both, bucket seats win no contest: just have to hope no-one hits me from the side! Have had people from 6'2" 10 stone to 5'5" 14 stone, a 5 year old who was only just big enough for the seat belt, and a 6'3" 18 stone person in, none have struggled with the buckets yet. Don't know if that helps?
