10K Bugeyes ?
#1
I'm looking to buy a Bugeye (no flames please, I like 'em) I will have 10-11k to spend early next year, does anyone think they will have dropped to that price by then or will I need to wait till late 2003?

Pogue,
People are a little upset about used values at the moment.
Welcome to scoobynet.
There are lots of year 2000 cars for sale in autotrader below 11000 pounds, with new models taking a 3k GBP hit and the influx of Euro imports you wont have to wait to long before the bugeye falls in your price bands although it may have a few miles on it.
Enjoy it when you get it.

if we all stick to selling at what we more or less paid, all this chat about what they're worth is just price conditioning everyone down.....causing panic sellers that flood the market which naturally causes subsidence in prices.....Hold on to your little treasures and cherrish thier real value, don't let the loosers that cannot afford them to talk down prices so they can cheapen them with F.C.UK stickers and cheap silver mesh clad 'seriously wide' body kits.....oh, and an ice install that rattles the cheap body kits and makes the mesh fall off!
scoobies old and new look great, feel great, sound great, handle great and go like s**t off a shovel.....so lets all remember why they hold thier value, and not sell our souls.........the only way our beloved scoob will loose value is if the new fugley is sold at a lower value than before, and of coarse natural depreciation.

Oh dear ....
Why are you so upset ??
It was a perfectly straight forward question.
I don't think there was any need for personal insults was there ?
By the way, when I buy I won't need finance like you did, I have 3 times that amount that I'll need to move by April for tax reasons.

LMAO Yoza put that handbag away mat!
Pogue...Davyboys MY01 recently went for just under £14K IIRC
It wasn't a high miler and as far as I could see, the only downside to the car was that the colour wasn't everyones cup o' tea (white).
By that token, you'll no doubt get someone desperate for a quick sale of a Euro import willing to let their Scoob go for £10-11K

Thank you SDB and Logiclee for your intelligent answers, I was only looking for some pointers as to what prices (might) do in the near future but it seems to have ruffled a few feathers
BTW the manic laugh was because I'm so looking forward to my first Scoob (mad car = mad laugh)

we would all like something for nothing.......no pog, was not a dig at your pecuniary prestige!
but putting the damage in the ten grand area will price condition others that are looking to buy and will make it harder for the seller to motivate...........ten k will get you a shagged 100k miles jap import around 94-5....so perhaps you need look in that range...

think they was let down on the launch as opposed to the classic looks.........it was not an improvement in many eyes!
remember the clocks go back an hour.....not that late realy!!
now if you got 30k to shift well you'd get a blinding scoob for that...........16k for the car and 14k for the mods

Just read your post about 5 times and to me, it makes no sense at all.
The bit I did understand...
...indicates you're either:
1) out of touch re. pricing
2) someone that payed too much for a shagged 100k jap import
3) pi$$ed/bored and looking for an argument
If the best offer I could get for my UK MY01 WRX with a good few grand extras was 16K, i'm pretty sure Pogue will pick up a Euro import for his target £11K next spring!

An improvement is far from what people would call it back then mate. Its actually grown on me over the year but at the end of the day, I still like the older models because they were lighter and performed better (bar handling of course).

Ed,
My 94 jap import has 87,000 miles on the clock, and it ain't shagged, take it from your post ( might be wrong here) you are a uk owner?
Seems every time theres money talked about imprezas it ends up in a flame war, and in general the uk owners start havin a go at the jap owners as tho' their cars are a piece of ****.
Have to say mate, when I bought my car 4 years ago I looked at Uk cars and I can tell u some of them werent that clever. So it isnt always a prerequisite(sp) that a uk car is a minter and all Jdm cars have had some mad kamikaze jap blasting up and down the Tokyo highways.
So please help us poor jap owners to keep our residual values up by not slagging them off in public.

seems you all got the wrong end of the stick
point was ment if you can sell a 8 years old jap import with 100k on the clock for ten grand then surely a bug eye is worth more than pogs est. ten k!
there was no slagging off of jap imports..seems you jap owners are a tad sensitive!.....not everyone has the confidence to buy an import.....not all peeps know where to get them serviced and source parts etc....thumbs up on havin 280gg's mind, i wouldnt say no

Hang on,
Bugeyes have always been 18K havent they right? Well they have if you go to trade sales or motorpoint. Or if you import it yourself they are more like 16k.
Its no secret is it, its just Subaru now want shot of what they have left.
However, I still dont think this means that all of a suddent our bugeys are all worth 10k? So what does that mean all the X reg classics are worth 8k? Type Rs 6K NO. 10k for a bugeye is cr4p. Just because a bit of media hype has flustered a few people doesnt mean theres going to be a marconi style panic sell session from all owners. If we all stick together and avoid a sudden panic then the 18k price from subaru should make no difference to the price of our cars. As I said, they have always been 18k.
At the end of the day, everyone knows what good solid cars they are and no market pressure can change there real value.
