had a ride in a Focus RS-you can all dry your eyes
#1
The guy is a single seat racing driver and he was flinging the RS everywhere, with ease.I'm not a techy dude but I think the diff just meant he could hold on and keep his foot planted, the car just went.I think he was bored with it tbh.
I can only compare this sensation with a battered red shed wagon called Red5,and driven by its nutter owner Docjocks Scoob is faster, more fun,and is just plain better to be in as a passenger.Your senses are battered a lot more, the ride in the Focus was just fast, thats it,nothing else.
Docjocks car V the Focus?
DJs wins easy, the Focus is great, just seemed easy to drive fast,or this guy made it look easy.
having said that i bet they get the ***** tuned off 'em and another 10 years of bbs wars will follow

Cheers Dave...cheque's in the post etc
Anyway, before they all get excited, they want to remember
a) RedShed is a wagon
b) Has gold wheels
so it's obviously much better than standard, so it's not a fair comparison

Dingy,
I haven't slagged it off! The RS was extremely rapid, but was just dull to sit in as a passenger.Just a sensation of speed and er,thats it.Did nothing for me from the passenger seat, and as I say, compared to Docs wagon,I could stay all day in that thing, but the RS was just well, characterless, for want of a better description.
Don't get me wrong,i would be happy with it for years until any glimmer of ability started to catch up,but for a well oiled Impreza owner i cannot see the RS attracting their wallets.
The diff just seems too good,no ability needed.Would 115 down Craner in a battered Scoob be more exciting than 120 in Quiafed RS?
just me 2p.But seems astonishing that the RS is more suited to a novice like me,for more advanced drivers i would have thought the RS would seem er,a bit easy?
ps its not the gold wheels DJ,its the black road warrior ones that make the difference

Yeah forgot about that, i allways go on what i see not what the sheep think
The RS Focus looked pretty impressive on track where as the new scoob looks very dull.
Hence me having a *** plus BHP 27 year old shed.

ok ok....
Anyone out there able to have a educated guess on the tuning potential for the new focus and its likely cost... ?
I'll also throw in my view... Had a Scooby and loved it, but also wouldn't mind the Focus. Looks great and goes well by the look of it...

My 2p's worth
The RS focus does come with Traction control so no real torque steer there, it does have big brakes, it is quicker round a track than its competitors but its not as quick on the road
(and the way that Clarkson was driving it on Top Gear yesterday it looked damn right scary on anything but smooth roads, ie most of britains roads )
Sometimes you can make a car too good and too flattering for the driver, it just means bigger and nastier accidents when they happen

agreed! but a battered MY97 wagon steaming up ya chuff looks and sounds better than both (and I don't do sheep )
personally I prefer the road warrior look to the "man about town who does trackdays" (he says, who actually runs a 147 and does trackdays, pot calling the kettle a bird in the hand i think)

I'm not mechanical at all, but traction control is a different kettle of fish completely to torque steer.
I'm utterly sold on non-front-wheel-drive cars now, but am intrigued and would like a test drive in the RS...
...but you can't get one, no dealer has one to play with, and they're sold up until March/April delivery.
The footage of clarkson fighting the diff was scary though.

The traction control should eliminate the torque steer by reducing the power to the front wheels, the diff is mechanical on the other hand and if its over sensitive then it will skip all over the place, this aint really torque steer (but then again were any of the testers driving with the TC on?)
