At the last service (60k), I was told the alarm bracket had sheared and the alarm was secure but would need replacing sometime. Was told this is common.

Anyone had this and replaced one themselves - can it be done easily by a sunday afternoon mechanic like myself (with few tools and a short temper) ?

its a known feature apparently
our's went on our MY00 - we noticed when we did the induction kit and used a cable tie to fix it until we got it to garage

Alarm bracket on my MY99 was replaced on my last service ( 40k ) and was charged about £60 for a new one. Said it was a common problem with MY99 cars.

And MY00's. I had it break on my MY99 and 00 cars.

You can replace it yourself (if you are a mechanical genius like me).

presume this is fixed under warranty.
They're not trying to pretend this is a 'feature' surely?

This is a known problem commonly acknowledged as a design fault.

DO NOT pay for it - it's a warranty fix.

Even happens on P1's. Mine sheared three weeks ago and I am still awaiting for the dealer to get one in.

If they were shearing on the MY99 and replaced then (and I remember them going very quickly in their life on that model) surely a modification/improvement was put through to beef them up?Are we now seeing those strengthened items now failing. Mine has failed after 30 months and 25,000 miles.

If it gets replaced then no doubt it will be identical to the item that was on there. So I should then expect it to fail on the cars 5th birthday? This is obviously a faulty component and we should get action for a proper solution not a stop gap which just moves the problem out of the warranty period.

Mine broke on my my00, I welded it back together again and got the dealer to get one, they changed it for me, but I reckon it'll go again, if it does, I'll just weld it up and leave it.

Unhappy

someone help me out with warranty here - i'm not the original owner and bought it from a subaru dealer in april and was told it had 12 months transferable subaru warranty ie claims could be made at any subaru franchise. however, i have nothing to back this up in writing (doh !!).

the after sales of the garage i bought it from was so bad i've kinda fallen out with them. can i approach another dealer and expect them to be helpful ? (the dealer who did the service - Gilesgate Ltd was very good and they spotted the broken bracket).

any advice welcome...

Riftzone - you should have received through the post a pack from Subaru UK (not from your dealer) confirming that you have bought an approved used car and that the warranty has been transferred to you. Cant remember exactly what it says but I have the same thing at home. Incidentally, it also includes Subaru Assistance ie brakedown cover. Perhaps your friendly dealer can sort this out for you.

Riftzone - if your car is less than 3 years old you can take it to any Subaru dealer in the country & they SHOULD replace it for you!
If you're near Grantham at all, call in & I'll do it for you!

Mine went !
Rather than bother replacing, only for it to break again, I striped the alarm off the bracket and used the swivel part to bolt it directly to the remaining part of alarm bracket on the body work.
Sounds strange but worked.
Threw away the bit that was left over so the cars lighter now and therefore faster.

Ah, FFS !!!!

Gilesgate just tried to put a warranty claim thru for me only to find that dealer that sold me the car (not Gilesgate) hasnt registered the warranty with Subaru (hence no pack thru the post).

And can I get hold of the feckin salesman ?! "He's currently with a customer" - no **** ! Sellin another car and feckin up the after care package completely no doubt.

Any dealers out there that can give some advice - when a dealer sells a 2nd Scoob, what needs to be done to register the 1 year manufacturer warranty with Subaru ? How complicated is it ? Is this something I can do or must it come from the dealer ?

HELP !!!!

Cheers.
