Oh, the lesser spotted SirCam

BT Internet can't even look after their network, let alone help users with viruses!

You running any anti-virus software Tony?

McAfee.com has a page which lists viruses and their cures, and the ones which are hoaxs. They recommend that before you pass on a warning about a virus to everyone in your address book, that you look there to check whether it is real or fake.

They reckon if everyone passes on hoax emails, then they won't be taken seriously if a real one comes along. Having just got a virus myself - the cure for which was a total reformat, I am investing in good anti-virus software!

Lets be Clear its not BtInternet or any service providers fault if users get themselves infected because they have failed to take basic precautions.

Having spent this week fire fighting on a large service provider network just to cope with the huge number of extra connections and bandwidth that the various virus consume just to keep gateways etc open so that users can continue to use the Internnet it is somewhat frustrating to see service providers blamed for users inability to take fundamental precautions. Its not always the ISPs fault Users have a responsibilty to protect themselves.

TONY.C - IIRC SirCam variants send a real file off the host computer ALONG with a virus. Your computer could be infected.

I have received over twenty copies of this same infected email at work over the last three weeks, several from Middle Eastern clients. Fortunately my Norton Antivirus software picked them up each time and quarantined them. The effect it has if it is opened is to send the same infected email to everyone in your address book.
