PPP for WRX worth it?

are you sure?
Someone corrected me on this a while back when I was asking whether to get a decat centre - I was told I already had one with the PPP...
btw - sorry to Crouchy for hijacking the thread

Been driving around in my new MY02 for a few days now, 370 miles towards the 1k service and licence to thrash it, I'm sure I won't be disappointed!
But a newbie question- I've seen discussion on here about the PPP for the STi, but nothing on the pack for the standard WRX? What exactly do you get for the money, as the Subaru website gives no details apart from a price of £1600 fitted?
If it's just plastic I'll leave it, but a couple of engine/exhaust tweaks may well tempt me to go for it at the service!
Cheers!

The official figure is 242PS (on super unleaded) which is about 240bhp.
Mine recently only made 233bhp on the rolling road and has since been found to be under-boosting. That figure was achieved with no more than 12.5psi of boost.

Have they changed the restrictor ?
A smaller restrictor will make the ECU think it's producing less boost so it compensates by producing more.
My WRX with PPP peaks at 17psi before levelling off at 16psi.
Nathan..

Nathan,
They say they have only reset the ECU so far which increased boost to 13.5psi (I'm not sure if I'm getting the whole story). They are now talking to Subaru/Prodrive about trying different restrictors with a view to getting the boost to where it should be. I'm interested in your boost figures though - should fly with that sort of pressure!
Cheers,
Gareth

My 02 with ppp went like an absolute rocket initially, then eased off, not just my imagination. If I commute to work in it it becomes lethargic and little better than standard. Tried dealer ecu reset, and I use SUL.
A few weeks ago i thrashed the life out of it on my day off for about 2 hours and at the end of that it went like hell again so that i could hear the standard dump valve whooshing.
I can't do that v often though and it's now back to lethargic again.BTW 10k miles and just serviced.
Any thoughts?
Not had it on a rolling road and i ain't got a boost gauge.

I have just had mine done
The Exhaust part No is SACC2523EXH. It is a Back Box and replacement Centre Section (Which is in fact the front pipe after the down pipe) I know this as I did not have them fitted as I have a HKS system that had already removed the Front/Centre Section.
See Pic below
Alll the best

Yeah, the ONLY reason to buy the PPP is to make sure U dont screw up your warranty
But if (like me) U have a mod friendly dealer then forget the PPP and just go for a FULL de-cat... Up - pipe, Down - pipe, both centre sections(includes the resonator section) and back box, and fit an ITG filter.... U then will have ~ 260 bhp AND still have money left in your pocket . . . put that towards a remap (£650+vat) and you'll be over the moon...
Bob - with a FULL de-cat

Don't anybody apologise for hijacking the thread, this is all good info! I had realised I wouldn't get an EXTRA 245bhp though...
That's the third time somebody has mentioned thrashing 'em to keep the power up, my m8 who's had 2 WRX's maintains he was told by his dealer to do this to get the best out of the engine...
What do the blue Prodrive hoses give me apart from blue Prodrive hoses?!
