These are on the subaru website. And someone will pay for that price for them there are enough muppets about.
A lot of them on this BBS ;-)
They are not all standard spec which is why some are higher than others

By a EURO import for 16K after three years sell it for 10K loss of 6K. By a full UK for 21.5K and three year later its worth a 2K of more at most ie. 12K. Its cost your 3.5K more for your full UK spec. A 5.5K saving isnt going to be a 5.5K difference after three years. What the advantage of a Uk over a Euro after the warranty has run out. Sure why its undder warranty there is a premium but a lot of Euros now come with 3 year warranty as well . No way I would buy a UK car. The bike industyr went through this and caved in and dropp ed the UK prices. It will happen to the car industry as well. The 3K off is the first step IMHO.

I just paid £13k for a brand spanking new 2.0 GX Impreza Hatchback with metallic paint! Wife loves it... (good job 'cos she aint touching my REX!) Personally I think the bugeyes are cute...
People used to think the original beetle was ugly you know...
Bargains to be had out there!
Mak.

I suspect that's about right, certainly by January. Generally, the used market is plummeting right now, and even Glass's and CAP are struggling to keep up.
But this will just make the bug-eye WRX (and the classic Scoob) even more of a performance bargain!

This can't be true!
I bought my car as an investment, I was sure that driving it every where getting stone chips and changing bits would increase the value!
Sorry - I'll go now... DrEvil is right I should never eat more than one NutriGrain bar.

Oh right. So it has sold for £17k or that's what the owner wants?
I assume you are a classic owner DBM? What you are saying is that people will pay more for an older car with more miles and no (or a short) warranty? Makes ense to me.....

When Cosworth Escorts stopped production, some of them sold 2 years later for more than they'd been new! People didn't like what it had been replaced with.................

I'd seen a couple of 01's in the trader for 14-15k ish a couple of weeks back, and it seems only logical to me that 3k got knocked off the price last week, so 12k seems a likely price that you will be able to pick up a bugeye for.

vel boy,
Those secondhand prices are all fine and dandy but they have just knocked 3 grand off the price of a brand new WRX which makes a brand new car cheaper than some of those secondhand ones.
Do people actually pay dealer prices for secondhand cars or do they immediately drop the price several grand when you say it's overpriced?
I would guess that people trading in the first of the bugeyes would be offered around 12K for them.

This topic just ends up going round in circles. I don't think the bottom end of the market will drop 3k just because the price of new ones for the next 3 months are being discounted. Its more likely that prices will bunch closer together, so instead of there being £750 difference between, say a July and Ocober MY01 model, the diffence will be £400, so the bottom end of the market doesn't get deflated down to the full extent of the 3k.
I'm yet to see a reputable dealer offering a bugeye at this 12k-13k price (at least not that price for a turbo model).

My MY01 which I bought in Germany earlier this year as thats where i am living at the mo only cost 20k(euros) which is around 13K.
It was just under a year old and had done a couple of K over the average mileage but hey I didn't care as I was getting a practical performance bargain, the car also came with loads of extras which made it even more of a bargain - A/C,VDO MS6000 satnav,STi wheels, and the guage set for the centre console.
I have no complaints, perhaps a tiny bit more torque but other than that I have a very different car to everyone else, infact I have only seen one other scooby in the last 5 months!
Regards,
John.

Yep and that fine cause you live in Germany and pay German taxes 50%+ when I was their and the cost of living is cheaper. So when you sell it it will all balance out.
The rub is you buy a euro import bring it back to the UK then when you sell it because its an import people in th UK are not willing to pay the UK second hand price for it.
The have a stigma attached...ar not the same spec...not the same quality...won't stand up to the british weather....that all b*llocks but that the mind set at the moment.
Me I bought a UK car and now drive a live in belgium...Adv much easier on insurance as I move around a lot (a year there a year there) and don't fancy export import from country to country. Can get away with a fair bit like getting done on speed cameras and nothing ever happens. And can drive like a nutter when going down the autobahns to southern Germany. :-)
