Audi TT and S3 recall

Not posted for schadenfreude reasons, but read P 15 of today's sun.
Apparently danger of rear suspension snapping and wheels breaking off.
I know some of you on here are owners of said vehicles. Keep that speed down, now.

I don't read the Bladdy San, but there was what must be the same story in yesterday's Autocar - except that Audi *hadn't* recalled the cars. I guess the media coverage has forced them to do so in the intervening day - but the pics of the black S3 with a cocked rear wheel have been on other forums for a while, so you'd have thought Audi would have responded sooner.
Oh, and Autocar mention that the Golf uses the same floorpan, but as I understand it the Audis have aluminium suspension parts instead of steel - anyone know if that's correct?

Have a look on the Evo forum (www.evo.co.uk) ~ I'd post a link but the site is down at the moment.
Look for a thread "Audi sell death cars" (something like that anyway) started by Robert Farago (the guy who penned the Autocar article).
Fault (apparently) affects MY99 TTs and S3s which have hollow lower arms ~ current cars have solid arms.

From what I have seen, it's only the early S3 and TT which are affected, because of the hollow suspension arms which are now solid. Best speak to Audi though - Autocar gave this number: 0800 699 888 for Audi's customer services department.
