Thumbs up

Well, I'm on your side mate

Some on here are just out of nappies see? they think its big and cool to spin donuts, race at 145mph, scream around a track and spend £1000's on pointless mods

When they discover women they tend to become more mature - its my way of spotting the Virgins on the BBS

Oh, yes, the Gold Wheels go when a woman makes a boy a man

Yes, point taken, but ANYONE with ANY skill and experience KNOWS that if you take a bend at 200mph the chances of visiting the scenery are high!! Surely to god there is NO need to tell/warn everyone about it???

Thats my point about kiddies just out of nappies being allowed in cars faster than a supermarket trolley - it should be illegal to own a car with more than 75BHP until you reach the age of 30!!

All IMHO of course

Unhappy

Why are so many threads being posted on the board bragging about peoples near misses? Its not big and its not clever. I would doubt if other people will learn from it either.
Now, I hate to say this but you never see much of this type of thread on the MLR bbs. Don't get me wrong, i'm not directly having a go at the people who have written the threads, just the type of thread. It doesn't look good to new people browsing the site does it? Yes there is freedom of speech and all that but I personally think that htese types of thread lower the standard of the bbs.

It's a bit like TV on here realy - if you don't like it don't read / respond.

If people what to talk about that let them - there is plenly of other stuff - unlike the TV

perhaps we should have a new area so people can post about their races, near crashes, dangerous driving etc etc etc.

Personaly I never do anyhting like that as it would be against the law & therfore make my insurance invalid.

If I was going to do it I would not brag about in on a public BBS that insurance companies could trawle thru.

then again I did have a race today with a mum in her people carrier we were both going for the same parking bay, but my superior handeling, 0 - 60 speed just won the day, or was it the daft bint cound not get her people carrier to turn in the correct dirrection.

I don't think it's cool to try and donut the thing in the local tesco's nor do I try to invoke people to race me,
I do however have gold wheels....dam

Andy

pointless mods like clear indicators, lip spoilers, big stereos etc then I agree.

Non pointless mods include anything that makes it...
Go faster.
Stop quicker.
coner better.

I think you are missing the point...!!!

People are letting you know and pointing out it is easy to have an accident/close call weather it be your fault or not.... may be you are perfect drivers and never have near misses in your car and may be it doesnt take someone elses close calls to make you drive safer..

Personally when i read the threads about peoples near misses it makes me that little bit more cautious when i venture out in the car..... but as i said may be you drive fine....

I have not in any of the thread recently seen anyone BRAGGING about these accidents, just mearly pointing out to be careful...

Hi all

I see your point but I've got gold wheels and pointless mods and I've a family and I'm OLD.

I moved, changed jobs and decided on a new car and logged onto Scoobynet as I've seen a few (loads really) in Carlisle.

I could not believe how people RAVED about these cars and I have to confess I bought one without even sitting in one....The power of the internet.

I read Scoobynet for about a month and saw everybody's point of view. but still decided that this was the car that I wanted to drive (OK it was fast, cool, and had gold wheels). I read all posts good and bad.

Read this again I bought my Scoob on the sheer enthusiasm of the people reading this post !!

but you could do the exact same thing in a car with 75bhp....

And you are probably more likly to due to crapper handling, no power i.e you take more risks like overtaking, personally i feel safer in my scoob (261bhp) than i did in my first car a 1.2 nova (60bhp), basically if i ever had/needed to overtake i had to get a mile run up, only to get past someone 1mph faster than them...

But i take your point if you drive stupid, then you will get whats coming, however you do need to question why you bought an impreza 'turbo' if you tootle around at sunday driver speed....

Those under 30 will NOT be allowed to overtake - so it isnt an Issue

Oh, yes, I drive an Impreza Turbo at Sunday Driver speed so I can come on here AND because I could get even more street cred than I had already

thing is scoobys are cheap cars now, so most people can afford them.

then its wow look at the power, 4wd system & kin hell spin, near miss etc etc etc

Me I learned in a mk1 escort with knackered crossply tyres so anythin other than parked was dangerous, then progressed up & up, it took me 5 years of driving before I had over 200 bhp, but then I knew I could kill myself did not need to try & prove it, some of todays drivers not just scoobys, pass their test in a little micra & go & get a fast car & wonder why they get problems.

Bikers pass a test then have a period before they can get a crazy bike.

can you imagin that for a car driver

no chance, yes you can get this scooby for 5k, bit of insurance in your dads name of course & off you go sir.

by the way I have silver wheels

Dan, I wouldn't claim to be the best driver in the world although there probably are those on this bbs who would
I agree that maybe you do slow down for a while after reading about someone elses near miss, but how long does it last? I was the same myself after my little prang earlier this year. You are very wary at first but then, without realising it, your back up to driving at full speed again. Its all about confidence or over-confidence to be more correct. Yes we drive high performance vehicles with good grip and handling, which ultimately means we can drive them quicker than most cars. But only until a point; the drivers limits. There won't be that many people who can truly drive an Impreza to its FULL limits safely.

I know but it would be good to learn.... but not on the road...!!!!! i think this is why so many people on here do track days e.t.c...

Im a bit bitter really, as only last month i had a slight coming together with a large kurb in the scoob (my fist accident).... the thing that gets me is, i was with my mate who was in his corrado at the time and he was driving like loon in the FOG, i slowed down and he carried on going and at this point i lost him.... next thing a right angle corner pops into view and its not him who crashes but me......

first car Mk1 escort mexico..and I hav'nt looked back.
(power wise that is).
struggled a little with an A+ series engine tho, strangled 127bhp out of it in the end but in a metro it was dangerous.
then a landy with drum brakes and a modded 3.0l V6, that was aslo dangerous ( to the point of it would go off the clock (90mph speedo) and hit the underside of the pin back at 0mph, clocked at 124mph)if you braked hard at anything over 70mph you had about 6 or so seconds to stop then they would fade totally .
a couple of 106 Rallye's
oh and i forgot the nitrous 306

Of all the "dangerous" vehicles Ive had, i have driven them all on the limit and over the limit
and only ballsed it up to the point of crashing erm.. twice
one i attributed to excess speed.
(turning into icy road)
one i attributed to lack of observation.
(gazing out of the side window and traffic stopped infront)
Is that a good record ! (passed test in 1991)
am I still a boy racer ?

so what next after the scooby I wonder, perhaps i'll have calmed down by then.....naaaaaaaa it's in the blood.

Does anybody else still see themselves enjoying fast cars etc when they are of pensionable age?

I think i'm a little off topic here so i'll shut up and go to bed

It's not the make, model, spec of car that causes these incidents it's the principle of a 'car' itself. You are cocooned in a cosy, comfy, protective environment that you perceive to be your own little haven. This breeds confidence, possibly arrogance as you are removed from the outside environment. We then become complacent that we are 'safe'. This often leads to people taking risks that if you were to assess them with a bit more thought and stepped back from the situation, we would never contemplate.

How many people do you see in any make of car pulling into small gaps on a motorway at 80 mph? I see it often and we all know what could happen at those speeds if one person was to scrub 5 mph of their speed. The point is that as we are all going along in these sound proofed metal boxes we tend to have this feeling of been invincible. Another example is the number of people who will gesture aggressively or mouth obscenities at other drivers. These people would never do this in the street. The feel protected in their car and so will quite happily act in this way.

I don't know where I heard it but somebody said that if we all replaced our airbags with a sharp metal spike coming out of the steering wheel we would all drive a lot more carefully and assess the risk situation with a great deal more thought. Although this seams obvious I think it makes a good point (no pun intended)

I hope somebody understands the point I'm trying to make....

An alternative to the nodding dog in the back window, these have been specially prepared so they fit uncomfortably in the passenger seat. If you can afford it, get the expensive version where the the sound limiter has been fitted (you'll thank me for it).
