PPP conversion on MY99
#1
Thinking about doing the deed and all that. Has anyone in the Herts area or surrounding counties rang up a dealers for quotes. My local one quoted £1675 + vat + delivery to Prodrive.
Has anyone got any cheaper prices, What difference did it make to your insurance.
I know that everyone said it makes a big difference etc but wouldn't mind trying before me buys. Anyone local to Watford with the PPP care to give me a spin before I parts with me cash

It is very good. And about the same again with a downpipe!
I called up a local dealer to ask for a PPP test drive. Said didn't have one but would fit to my car on approval with no charge if I decided no. I of course decided yes and paid a few weeks later. Makes it very torquey indeed. Paid 1500+vat fitted at dealer in under two hours - done within 48 hours of my original phone call!

Got MY99 booked in to have this done. My dealer said that it is only the new shape cars that can have the PPP fitted at dealership, thats why its a bit cheaper. Old shape cars apparently have to go to Prodrive and the £1675 + VAT is the standard price.

John, you mention the down pipe being a useful upgrade with the PPP conversion. Which one do you recommend, and does it effect the warranty. What sort of increase are we talking, bhp or an increase in the torque/response of the engine ?

I got Falkland/Magnex Twin Dump. It is good. But no one has done a detailed comparison of the different DP's AFAIK. They are probably all quite good. Yes, it does affect warranty officially, but some dealers apparently will still entertain claims.
Much better spool up, better response. Probably good for 15bhp/lbft but this is debated. Certainly the acceleration is manic now and the scenery rushes about, and the tyres unstick a lot easier in the wet. Also peak boost/torque is at around 3000rpm.
I've not had it dynoed as I don't really believe in the reliability of the results. It drives very well and that's it for me. But 50-70 in 5th on the speedo is about 6s - more than 8 on MY00. 30-70 through the gears (indicated 35-75 is similar) is around 4.5 secs. 65-105 indicated (an estimate of 60-100) is under 8s which is P1/STi ballpark. To be honest this is probably as good as a RR esp if you do it before after on a fairly long measure like 8 seconds. The 4.5s could be anywhere from 4.3 - 4.7 I suppose. But is it very fast.
