Thumbs down

So not only do I have a temperature of almost 38, I have just had the cops 'round saying the Scooby's had it's CD player and Equaliser nicked.

No glass damage or serious dashboard damage, but I just don't get it. The head unit was a Kenwood Stealth (Mask?) unit so they need the RC I have to re-activate the revolving face. Also the EQ's removeable faceplate is in my hand. Both units would seem to be thoroughly uselss to them...

I will replace with completely removable units that I take out of the car.

Why did the Mask system and removable faceplate not seem to be an effective theft deterrent?? Any ideas?

Also will Kenwood replace them free of charge for me??

These theiving empty heads are obviuosly so thick they don't realise the units are worth nothing without the facia. I doubt there clever enough to have/get a facia for them.

Just bad luck I'm affraid.

Get a perimeter alarm perhaps.

A perimeter alarm? Well it had a Cat 1 with a battery back up on the alarm, it's also on a corner just by the police station under a lamp post...

Maybe a paging alarm might have helped? Well not this time as I was abroad, but does anyone have any exp of these or supplier names?

Thanks

PS as the copper said these guys were really dumb - the spare plazma headlamp bulbs tossed aside were worth a good few bob sfter all...

I hear you can de-code the kenwood masks, that is probably why they took it.

Yeah, the next step is to connect the perimeter alarm (set it to detect people looking through the window) to a pager system or a PAYG mobile phone. Maximum Impact do the mobile phone thing but there in Leeds. I'm sure someone in London would do it. Useless if your on holiday though but you could set the phone to ring a mates phone nearby.

you might be able to decode it to get it the back plate to turn round, but they would also need to order a new set of buttons from somewhere....

possibly not that easy.

Done some homework and you can not get the 'old fashioned' totally removeable units any more...

Also the new mask units now have a removeable front panel - maybe that says a lot...

The dealer said that the 'insurance' on the Kenwood Mask unit was for only a year...

Looks like its stump up £600 lads - no point using the car ins as I have to have full no claims on that to make the £1700 it costs remotely feasible (I use the term 'feasible' lightly).

I am so f*c*i* pi$$ed off, and paranoid it will just happen again.

Diesel - listen. If your that worried, get at perimeter/pager/PAYG extension to the CAT 1. As soon as someone takes an interest in the car you get notified. They get warned off early and you get the chance to give um a good kickin' aswell. Simple.
