All

Anyone catch Driven last night
Jag XJR
Audi S6 Quattro
Beemer M5....all going head to head.
They raced them against a Ferrari Testarossa over a 1/4 mile & the Beemer beat it by a fraction.
Beemer won overall (surprise surprise)

Must say if I had the cash then the M5 would be top of my list for descreet performance.

Cheers.

Jules.

It did make a mockery of all the complaints about Top Gear encouraging people to drive like hooligans with all the 360 and 180 spins.

agreed....

Also the Beemer used was the one used in the EVO Car of the year shoot-out - T400 BHP - & also tested in most other car mags.
I bet its nice & loosened up...

Why the heck did they choose a dog like the Testarossa to compare them with? It was always bad from the outset and only partially redeemed by the later 512LM or whatever they called that variant.

I actually think all these airfields and powerslides are getting boring now. Once you`ve seen one you`ve seen the lot.It just looks crass after a while.

I d prefer a mix of track tests for timing etc and some real world road scenes.

They used to do a test where they accelerated past a lorry doing 40ish miles per hour to test mid-range performance.
What I would like to see on their test...
1) Lorry test (to test mid-range)
2) 0-60/0-100 - lets face it - everyone is interested in that !
3) Timed lap of a track.
4) Go to Wales or somewhere & do an "A-B challange"
5) 100-0 brake challange (which they used to do)

...then the "give the M5 to Jules for a year or so FOC" test.....

Only problem with the go to wales bit Jules, is that they would get even more trouble from Mr Angry from Swansea complaining they are promoting speeding on the open road? The best way to do that, would be the handling circuit at Millbrook, its built like a normal road, and would not put anybody else in danger from their antics.

Question

How come Tiff was able to power slide the BMW for ages where as the driven lot spun it every time? I think they may need to brush up on their driving skills before they attempt to thrash around Wales!

This programme just gets worse with every show!

Driven 100 My *rse!

Lets pick a set of criteria which will result in our favoured car winning !

Yep, I am complaining i dont even watch it Top Gear and Drivel are both out at the moment, they get interesting cars on, then use flawed arguments to let the car they want/like to win ??? OK after Simon's post about the Z coupe i will let that one slide, but its still a flamin ugly car and people say the Impreza is ugly ?

The show is so biased - and obviously pre-loaded in favour of... the presenters remind me of little kids going out behind their parents back to do something naughty, I give little for their opinions or their rating ability - come on where are you going to drive a car like that on a daily basis.

I too would like to see them (or a different show ) cover the more relevant points
0-60 / 0-100 / 100-0 and when you're likely to get understeer / over steer - bla bla
not watching them spin the car round a track for 1/2 hour then score - out of 100.

But having said that and having had the dubious privilege of driving an Audi yesterday - all I can say is - if all Audi's drive like the sponge I drove yesterday - you can kept 'em.

Hurrah - I disagree with all of you!

I actually really enjoyed driven last night. I dont think a TV program is ever going to be able to seriously review cars, but this looked like fun. The presenters were enjoying themselves anyway!! The whole program taught me absolutely nothing, except reinforced that Tiff really can powerslide cars.... and contradicted info abou car colour (Im sure Yellow is supposed to be safest???) but it was still good fun to watch!!

Still,,,only my opinion

I like Audis too....especially A3...along with 306GTi-6 its the only 'normal' car I woudl ever consider.....

I know it was a little bit damp, but 14 second standing quarters I ask you - even Stef in his (almost) bog standard UK Impreza can beat that (13.53s). Methinks they be a bit too heavy....(shame we didn't see the terminal speeds). Just goes to show power to weight is better than just big power (eh Nightmare?! ).

ABOUT A MONTH AGO THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAMME WAS SHOT
I HAPPEN TO BE A PERSONAL FRIEND OF ONE OR TWO OF THE PRESENTERS AND ALSO HAD THE PLEASURE OF DOUGHNUTTING THE M5
IT ONLY HAD 2500 MILES ON IT
IT IS A SUPERB CAR AND THE SHOW IS ALOT BETTER THAN TOP GEAR ANY DAY

The T400 BHP used by EVO was a red M5 so either Driven is getting nifty with their video manipulation or its a different car
Perhaps the red M5 used by EVO was just a bit too loosened up....been round the block a few times and all that so a change of demo car was needed.
