Question

I ring round 4 Subaru dealers to get a price for some work and all the prices they quote me are different by at the most £50, i may use the cheapest but this means quite a track between countys but i would still save money after petrol costs.

What does everyone else do use the closest or the cheapest?

Cheers.

I tend not to use Subaru dealers for anything other than parts (and then only when I can't get the OEM parts via other routes for less money)

Mostly, I do the service work myself. If I have to get help, then I go to the cheaper place, as long as its reputation is good. It's silly to pay for a bad job and have to have it done again.

It's always best to use a dealer you trust. I've got four dealers within 30 or so, but choose to do an 180 mile round trip to one I trust.

I tend to use this board to assess dealers. Ignore what I have found out and use the cheapest(no, not really).

Prices do vary a lot. 60 mile round trip for my 30k service - price was one of the cheapest and the dealer reputation, from what I read was excellent. I was certainly happy.

They should all be using the same parts, at the same price from Subaru so there either booking more/less time or have a different hourly rate.

See if you can get written qoutes and then let the dealers haggle amongst themselves untill you get a quote that suits you!

One thing to bear in mind though is that there are very few dealerships, regardless of manafacturer that could survive on car sales alone, there really isn't as much money in it as you may think. Most are kept afloat by the workshop, take that money away, the dealer could go too
