Some ****** smashed my N/S rear window on my MY01. That's bad enough but they also damaged the trim around the glass and the rubber seal.Grrrrr...............
Got the window repaired- £107 + VAT + Fitting, and a further £106+VAT+Fitting for the trim, still waiting for a price for the door seal!!!
Thanks Hants Police (Not), you were nothing short of useless!

And what, exactly, are the police supposed to do to stop somebody smashing the window of your car? Are you expecting a 24hr guard to ensure some vagrant tosser doesn't put a brick through your car's window?

Give the man a break Don't you think he has suffered enough. I think the point he is trying to make is that the police and the legal system in this country are nothing short of a Brian Rix farce. The police are far too care free with so called "petty" crime

I have every sympathy for the guy, I had a window put through on my STI Type-R (£275 for a replacement glass, plus labour ). But to then trot out the same old predictable accusations that somehow it's the police's fault or that they should have been able to prevent it just irritates me.

My son had his Rover Metro broken into last night. He's 17 and after having paid basic Third Party (only available to him) at 1100 quid pa, you can imagine how he now feels. Offside rear window smashed exactly as a neighbour's similar car recently. Took two rear speakers. Apart from that, rain soaked interior, glass cost and clear up time. A sickener.
Petty crime it may be. However, todays petty criminals not being taken seriously by our "cost cutting instructed" Police Forces are tomorrow's bigger time crooks, rapists or even killers .... Why? Because they've been allowed to get away with it for years so why not take further advantage and progress further. Crime does pay at ALL levels and few criminals ever get their dues. You have to catch them first of course - for many reasons, an increasingly rare event unfortunately .....

Have to agree on the state of our police when it comes to real crime. Had my window smashed and stuff stolen. 999 on my mobile. The first question I get asked is 'Do you want victim support?'....!! Come on, I thought I dialled 999 and asked for the police ...??!! They point blank refused to come out - what about fingerprints? What about the house across the road where there may have been a witness??
I was in PCWorld in Reading. The car next to mine had the same thing happen. Again, the police refused to come out. Even though this has happened there many times - the security guys are watching out for it (so you guys watch it there!).
Had a friend get burgled and loads of jewellery go. Again, they didn't even bother attending. It took several really snotty 'phone calls before someone even bothered to come out (nearly 2 weeks later). Then there were *convinced* it must have been the lodger. Even though they had not been near the house or met anyone before.
Some guy took exception to me when on the m'bike. Deliberately tried to nock me off - several times (long story!). I had a witness. Went to plod station - the guy there was extremely loathe to take my statement (not my patch guv ...). He did in the end reluctantly. Waited to hear from Richmond - where it happened. owt for a couple of weeks. I rang and was told, oh could be ages yet before you're called. One ear-bashed executive officer later I made a formal statement about 2 days later. The guy said it was because of going off on one on the phone to his boss! And only that!
So, British police? At the moment they're useful for catching those murderous, treacherous, speeding drivers, but can't see ay use aprt from that! And they're meant to be there to serve the public!!! Cynical, moi? Nah ....
Dave
PS: Scooby_Maxus and MGJohn, sorry to hear about the damage. Hope the scum bags get what they deserve.
