Straights, you might have the advantage. Bends, with the lack of weight of his then he should be able to kill you.

Add water and the equation will be different - you should be at a considerable advantage...

IMHO

i suppose the vx being so light, 900kg rear wheel drive must be hard to get the power down in the wet, so all round then i should have him apart from in dry twisties?

Be careful with your testing. Remember other drivers won't know about your comparison trials. It's much better to do this kind of thing on track. If you get caught/have an accident you may be charged with 'racing on the public highway'

we're too old & wise for that mate dont worry, ive been doing my IAM bike lessons for a while now, so no we arent racing for pink slips or anything childish/dangerous, i'll probably take him out in mine & vice versa, ive been trying to get the poof to go on a track day with me but he's too scared, any one recommend a decent track day for novices?

One of my neighbours had a VX220 and he drives it like a bell**d and we've had to have a 'chata couple of times.

I always think that I would like to see him out on the roads but then I would be stooping to his level.

I think that he is a hairdresser!

FWIW, same driver, tests on Hockenheim showed the WRX being about 2 seconds slower than the VX220 (dry).

Wet of course will be different.

Weak points on VX220 on track is ABS giving "funny moments"

Another weak point is that the paint falls off when you sneeze Absolute nightmare.

And oh, they can live together in harmony you know

(the Jaffa one had only 2 full resprays in 7 months, cute eh )

evel this is from my mate with the VX
"What did Vauxhall/Opel say about the paintwork and did you get the spray job on warranty-reason i ask is that im having problem at the moment with paintwork, which seems about as thick as a Smarties sweet covering.......

If u didnt get it on warranty, how much did it cost u?"
thanks

We did manage to get it done on warranty. But I had to fight for it. The dealer first thought we had done a gravel stage with it...

I actually had to point out that his 0 mile showroom car already had some paint cracking.

AFAIK it is about the paint not sticking to the "non metal" panels of the VX220. And again as far as I could investigate, the Lotus Elise v1 had the same problem.

Another problem is the rear lights. They move around, "rubbing" the panels. They now have a solution for that (basically putting some rubber or armourfend around the rear lights.

The whole experience has been a nightmare, purchase was a joke.

As much as my wife loves the car, it has been in repair for 4 of the 9 months of ownership.

If your friend has the same problem, give him this information and make sure he can get it resprayed under warranty. After that, race him on track (which will void his warranty LOL )

Edit: just been advised that warranty is with an "a"

I would say, on the straights it'll be very even, in the bends in the dry he'll kill you unless he can't drive, and vice versa in the wet.

Track recommendation... Elvington or Bruntingthorpe. Or any other airfield. Lots of room for mistakes.

Hi all,
sorry i guess i was a little harsh on the vx earlier but i was out the door.
performance wise the vx isnt slow but a scoob should beat it, the vx doesnt hit 60 mph in second gear so this slows it down a little as a third gear change is needed in a straight line sprint.
the vx handles crap in the wet but that we can appreciate, being rear wheel drive. In the dry it seems to handle Quite well if there is two people in it otherwise it shakes like fu##. My opinion is a scoob shouldnt have a problem beating the vx in the wet or dry.
I sold my uk turbo to buy the vx then sold it 3 weeks later and brought an m3 evo, not being happy with that i then sold that 4 weeks later and went back to Subarus with the purchase of my P1.
All of the above is all IMO and i dont want to start a war.
Cheers,
Justin

The VX220 sprint (165bhp vs 145bhp as standard, bigger brakes, stiffer shocks) was 1 second a lap faster than a 320bhp EVO7 RS sprint in the EVO track day car of the year. On the traces, the VX lost out over 70 or 80 in a straight line (but was close up to that point), but won round the corners and on the brakes.

You shouldn't be racing vehicles on the Queens highway
If I see you I will report you to the local constabulary
ONLY joking, enjoy the day and remember, drive safely

Hi Guys,

Here is another little comparison to ponder over.
When I had my Elise mk2 I raced my brothers wrx (ppp).
In a straight line from rest there was nothing in it up to 90 mph, it that point we slowed down.
Just going on humble elise (and not mighty VX220) ownership, I would have to say that The vx220 will probably have the advantage. And yes, other hand in the wet.

The thing that I always discovered was that the Elise felt like 90 when doing 60, and the Scoob vice versa.

I cannot wait to meet the local scary black VX220 (ooooooooh shiver!) when I am in the STI.

Let the good time roll!

Cheers.

Carry it out on your local ''popular'' TV show Top Gear and you'll be sure the Opel (or Vauxhall) wins.

I doubt very much whether the vauxhall will cut the mustard!

I had the pleasure of driving a friends Forrestor Turbo to Budapest last summer, at the Austrian / Hungarian Border we had a little play with a VX220, top end was very comparable and even with a fully laden Forrester we took the lead!

Wink

Did VX220's at J.Palmers place in Bedford.

Nice little car for a giggle, spun it twice in the dry (Mid engine, once it goes, there's not alot left to do ) I suppose with more practice (and ability ) it would be better. I drove there in the scoob and to be honest, i don't think they are that quick! Maybe cos i'd driven the single seaters and Caterhams earlier, but the VX just didn't float me boat.

As to it being "close" with the WRX, I'm not convinced, the scoob feels quicker and more together than the VX so assuming ya mate is "Joe bloggs" behind the wheel, you'll do better.

A scoob finds your good points and amplifies them thus enhancing the driving experience, a VX finds ya weaknesses and punishes you until you are bleeding

All IMHO of course

Mikey
