Mods - please leave here for as long as poss.

A mate of mine had his Scoob taken from his drive last night up here in Lancashire. The ***** came into his house, took the keys and then drove it off.

Now to add insult to injury, they keep driving past his house (loud exhaust), and also ringing his mobile and saying we have your Scoob

The car is a 94 WRX STi Wagon in Red

Registration: M2 KDA

Features include:
16" Gold wheels
Pipercross filter
Jap style backbox - huge 4 or 5" thing
Bleed valve
Pioneer stereo
Has the WRX STi pink sticker on the back

He has only had it a week or so, so is not sure of things like the make of the exhaust.

Please could everyone keep an eye out for it around East Lancs and West Yorks. The car was taken from a place in between Burnley and Skipton, and could now be anywhere in this area.

Please keep an eye out for it - red wagon, M2 KDA

Mail/ring me if anyone sees it - thanks all.

Simon

If they have ihis mobile, tell the police and they could get the phone provider to possibly try and pinpoint where it is!

Just a thought!

If they're using his mobile, all is not lost - as Steven says above, it can be traced within cells.

Get 'em on the case. Say there might have been a weapon involved

Sorry chaps - they are ringing his mobile phone (which he still has) from a land line and withholding the number.

Even more annoying, it has a Tracker, but because the registration of it hasnt been changed over yet (with appropriate fees paid) the tracker company wont do anything with it

But surely they must know him if they have his mobile number

How they hell can the b4st4rds get away with that?

Police will still be able to trace a call made from a withheld number though.

All depends re the mobile number though - if someone nicked my motor, and I had inadvertantly left a business card in there, it has my address and mobile number on it (I try not to leave cards in the car, but you could easily drop one).

Question

Feel sorry for him - however pi$$ed off he may feel about the car gettin taken - havin them ring him up & taunt him - lessons in physcological adjustment needed bigtime!!

Hope it works out for him - & they get whats coming to them!!!!

They obviously got his number from the car - how did they know it was his & not some general number i.e. a work collegue, friend, family etc.

Would it be worthwhile contacting previous owner - would the person still have some 'services' time left from Tracker before fees are paid to 'change over'. Just a thought.

One positive thing about Scoobynet is that when the likes of this occurs - the more people thinking/looking/throwing ideas into the 'pot' can help.

Hope it comes to a conclusion he's happy with.

Regards

Johny.

Yup, they can still trace the number even if it is witheld (as it gets billed )
I'd inform the service provider and ask for a full detailed list of any numbers that have been witheld, this should pin point the offenders and hopefully get them locked up (as they dont seem that bright )
Will keep an eye out for the car though

If they have driven past his house a few times with the exhaust noticable as previously mentioned - there must be some connection.

Dont think most thiefs would be that careless to put themselves in a position of getting caught so stupidly so quickly - unless some sort of idea that if it comes to it they wont get done as there IS a connection - if so positive in one way but I wouldnt be happy with anyone I knew pulliing that stunt on me though.

Get the police involved on tracing that number right away. It's the work of seconds for BT to tell the police where it's come from. Do it sooner rather than later...

Good luck, sounds like these idiots could have shot themselevs in the foot

The police can get the number, his service provider CANNOT, it's illegal to give out withheld/ex-directory numbers unless there is a warrant issued. He's stuffed if it's a 'pay-as-you-go' type mobile or phonebox calling him though as there won't be a billing address.

dosenoffner - doubt it, as he bought the car off another mate (guy who does my servicing) who has had it for over a year.

Took my car down for a service this morning which is how I heard of it.

Sorry, mis read it, but you should still be able to trace the land lines. They are not always the brightest people on earth, you only had to watch that program last night on ITV.

Having watched that programme last night you can't help but agree with P20PSD that these mugs certainly ain't the brightest but the worrying point seems to be that they are getting more and more brazen and just taunt people and the police

BRING BACK THE BIRCH (or hanging for car crime!) .

Anyway I don't want to detract from the point of the thread

Hope your mate gets this sorted ASAP

Little theiving f*****s should be strung up by the nuts and used for air pistol practice indefinitely. I'll keep my eye out for a red wagon.

As far as the phone trace goes. It can be done very quickly. Mobile phone providers usually have fraud department and police laisons who deal directly with the police and can respond immediately to situations like this. I'd assume that land line providers will have the same. They can get authorisation to get the withheld numbers through their own fraud department.

hope he gets his car back in one piece ..... and if he doesn't... i hope the little f*****s crash and mutilate themselves in it.

Deffo sort out a home made stinger. If they keep driving past the house then four tyres is a small price to pay for the five minutes in garden shed alone with them before the police arrive.

Question

Doesn't add up. If this has been reported to Police, they can get Tracker Company to trace. Is this RAC Trackstar??? They were absolutely excellent when mine got TWOC'd a couple of weeks ago. On the recovery truck inside 2 hours Hope you're as lucky

They still must provide the information to the police AFAIK. I believe, as David Wallis reminded me at lunch, its withholding information relating to a crime, and perverting the course of justice.

Anyway, i would ring the previous owner and get them to ring the tracker company if it was proving to be a problem.
