I've got a 2001 (UK) WRX with 22K on the clock. I had it from 12 months old with 6K on the clock so the car was minted when I got it.I intend to keep the car for at least another three years and will cover around 25K a year.

So my little scooby will have 100K on the clock when I'm done with it.

The question for those of you who might know is will the engine inc. turbo hold together this long. I drive the car reasonably carefully but at times it does get a good work out. I will stick to dealer servicing as well.

What's the view ?

Cheers

As long as you can keep yourself from modifying that lovely engine and stick to an oil change regime of 2500-3000 miles (Subaru JApan recommendation) you should not have a problem. A friend has stuck to tha regime with his MY99 STI 5 type r which is standard and is about to clock 100,000 miles which i think is a record for a JDM car in the uk without a rebuild.

Ps he has gone through 8 MAF's

Wink

Warm it up carefully (below 3,000rpm until normal temp) and cool is down carefully.. last few miles off boost or let tick over for a minute or two and keep the oil changed regular and all should be fine..

Treated nicely that are a strong car.. imho..

JGM MY96 UK Turbo with 112000miles on the clock and oil changed every 7500miles..

I'm covering 40,000+ a year and hope to get it to over 160,000 (4 years driving). The MY02 service schedule is oil change at 10,000 intervals, should it be changed more frequently?

:-)

Thumbs up

My 96MY WRX has done 105,000 miles without any work apart from regular services and oilchanges. Clutch replaced at 80,000 miles.
Engine is as sweet as a nut still. Oil consumption nil. Gearbox is getting a bit noisy. Otherwise no problems.

MY98 Turbo, 104k miles, FSSH......no problems at all!!
All original and runs excellent
Stick to the dealer servicing and take out the extended (up to year 5) warranty you have no worries at all anyway! They're confident in their product so you should be
I think it's been stated a few times that 'unmodified' turbos regularly serviced should run forever (200k+ anyway), all these people out there frightened by the miles are missing out on bargains IMHO, just ensure the history is spot on you can't go wrong..

I feel I should contribute...

UK MY95 with 155,000 miles now. The engine and turbo are still sound. No blue smoke or untoward noises. The only bits I've replaced are water pump, clutch, crank sensor (twice), PAS pump and just a few weeks ago the master brake cylinder.

Regular servicing is the key, plus treating the engine well (warm up - cool down etc).

That's fantastic news! My garage told me not to bother changing the oil and filter between scheduled services and was told that the standard UK WRX is good for 200k miles without major problems.... Fingers crossed - I hit 5,000 miles today, had the car for, err, 4 weeks today!

:-)

The answers are clear - dont modify, or face a short life with reliability troubles - change oil regular, a favourite is every 3500 miles Oil Only, filter + oil every 7500 miles - dont do track-days and enjoy a long healthy life. I intend to keep mine for 10 years and 150k miles
