I think a non-folding rear seat, and that's about it.
I still cannot understand the hysteria about why an RB5 is so good. To me, it's just cosmetic differences - like the Terzo and UK300. It doesn't go faster or handle better.

The engines would be the same, yes.
The RB5 also has 17" wheels and a solid rear bulkhead (rear seats don't fold down), so you'd have to look at adding a rear strut brace to a MY99 to achieve similar handling benefits.
The RB5 also had the interior map reading lights from the MY00.

Due to the solid rear bulk head it handles fractionally better than the UK model it is almost the equivalent of. Apart from that, the rest is cosmetic (but nice ) unless you are talking about the PPP one.
The RB5 WRSport is the RB5 with the full WRSport package which includes the PPP, Prodrive Suspension and possibly the other bits and pieces, the details of which I have forgotten

Like has already been said, the standard UK one just has a few little differences like the trim, wheels, colour, etc... and then things like the solid rear bulk head, quickshift, etc...
However, the Prodrive one like my mate has is a bit "special" actually. It has more differences than most people know.
Not only do they have more power & torque, but it's more useable with much more torque at lower revs and there are things like the different LSD, uprated suspension, large rear spoiler, different exhaust, modded ECU, etc... that make them a better drive. It's this car that people refer to as the "best UK Impreza" and not the standard UK RB5.
Stats -
UK RB5:
Power - 215bhp @ 5600rpm
Torque - 214lb/ft @ 4000rpm
0-60 - 5.4secs
0-100 - 14.6secs
Power/Weight - 195bhp/ton
Prodrive RB5:
Power - 237bhp @ 6000rpm
Torque - 258lb/ft @ 3500rpm
0-60 - 5.0secs
0-100 - 14.1secs
Power/Weight - 220bhp/ton
I actually have a copy of the original Subaru literature in PowerPoint format off my mate with the Prodrive RB5.

It had quick shift gear change and driving lights as standard. For those of you haven't had quickshift you won't understand the benefits, but it was the first mod I had on my UK300

If he has other mods done it would involve purchasing extra prodrive packs on top of the WR Sport version. The reason the WR Sport version was popular was because it had the prodrive rear wing and PPP for an extra 2.5K. Standard RB5 was 25K and the RB% WR Sport was 27.5K. At the time the PPP alone was 2K+vat and the rear wings were close to 1K sprayed and fitted. So it was a good deal if you intended to PPP it.
A full Prodrive RB5 with all the missing Prodrive packs would be more than the 27,500 WR Sport version, although quite a few of the extra bits in some of the other packs were already fitted to the RB5 eg. quickshift, 17" wheels, driving lamps, seats.
Note though you could have a full Prodrive MY99 but the cost on top of the MY99 turbo (20K) was around 10K for all the packs IIRC.

Yeah, but the point is that the RB5 is nothing but a standard UK MY99, but with all the Prodrive packs bundled, and a couple of flashy graphics.
I always did find the "best Impreza ever" tag laughable when it was given to the RB5, but not the Prodrive-packed UK car.

Actually...
According to Evo, the P1 has the tag of "ultimate old-shape Impreza" now and not the RB5!
However, it *was* the RB5 WR Prodrive that had the tag previously, or so it says in my copies of Evo.

Magazines, dealers and owners are always gettign the power figures wrong for the RB5. I feel sorry for poeple who have been sold a second hand RB5 and think it has 240bhp by reading magazines or unknowledgable/dodgy traders.

Im a bit confused by the bhp/ton
I thought an impreza weighed around 1280kg which is 1.28ton and bhp/ton is worked out by dividing the power 237bhp by weight 1.28tons which comes to 185bhp/ton for the RB5 and 167bhp/ton for the uk scoob or am i missing something here....????
Can someone clear this up...?? maths was never my strong point..

I was going to buy a RB5 but ended up buying a my98 with full Prodrive extras (except the recaro's)
It was a better buy than the RB5 i was looking at at the time but ive always been mistified as to whats so "special" about RB5's.
The RB5 in question had a PPP but wasnt a WRSport where as my 98 also has a PPP and all the other Prodrive stuff at the time.
If you bought a standard UK turbo and had the Drivers pack and the handling pack it would also be a WRSport but you didnt need the PPP for it to become a WRSport...or so it says in You and your Impreza turbo book

According to my info...
The kerb weight is 1235kg for both cars apparently and your maths is right.
So :-
UK RB5 = 215bhp / 1235kg x 1000 = 174bhp/ton
WR RB5 = 237bhp / 1235kg x 1000 = 192bhp/ton
Checking back on my previous post now, I misread the stats in Evo! Oops!
Although, Evo seem not to ba able to do their maths either, as they list them as 177bhp/ton & 195bhp/ton in the mag?!

I've forgotten the amount of times this question has been asked, but here's all the differences:-
Std RB5 vs MY99
1. Solid Rear Bulkhead (simple straight strut brace off an STI to you and me)
2. 17" Speedline Wheels & Pirelli P-Zero Tyres
3. Steel-Blue Metallic Paint (grey off an STI to you and me)
4. Map Reading Lights
5. Individually numbered RB5 Plaque (behind gear ****)
6. Red Stiched Momo Steering Wheel (more STI parts)
7. Red Stiched Gear **** (yet another rumage through the STI parts bin)
8. Air-con
9. PIAA Driving Lamps
10. RB5 PIAA Covers
11. Blue Alcantara Seats and Door cards
12. Grey-metallic centre console trim
13. RB5 Embosed car mats
14. RB5 Decals on front wings and boot lid
15. Colour-coded side skirts and wing mirrors
16. Quickshift (forgot that one )
WR Sport RB5 v std RB5
1. Prodrive-badged Back box
2. Prodrive/STI de-cat centre
3. Prodrive ECU
4. Prodrive IC hoses
This is same as any MY99/00 PPP
5. WR Sport embosed rev counter
6. Prodrive spolier
As to why everyone thinks the RB5 is so special, God only knows. A MY99/00 with PPP, some 17" wheels and a rear strut brace will handle just as well as any RB5 WR Sport.
Stefan
AND FOR THE LAST TIME, THE WR SPORT DID NOT HAVE ANY PRODRIVE SUSPENSION MODS. IF YOU FIND AN RB5 WITH THEM, IT'S BEEN ADDED BY THE CUSTOMER/DEALER.

Andy,
The MY98 with PPP is different to any MY99/00 (or WR Sport for that matter). Prodrive used a different ECU from 99 onwards, so performance was increased over the 98 PPP.
