Been looking at a few Scoobs to buy and a few have stood out from the crowd. Really giving me a headache though cos each has its differant pro's and cons. Any opinions on these would be appreciated.
1) '98 R reg UK, silver, 40K, fsh, PPP.
2) '98 Terzo, FSSH, mint condition but 84K.
3) '95 M reg, WRX, modded with everything, waterspary, strut braces, ice, tracker, 17's, waxoiled, 4 pot brakes, turbo timer, gauges, 57K, no history. Seller is my age (24), doh! and I get the impression he drives it hard.

Obviously number 3) I wouldn't have to spend anything on it, except repair bills for parts that have been thrashed to death on it, number 2) the mileage is the only downside, and number 1), well, its not a Terzo. Would I be better with a more exclusive Terzo, or its low mileage stablemate of the same year?

Any advice please?????

Icy.

Cool

erm depends wot floats yer boat i suppose & the price should vary a fair few on those n all. Modifications shouldn't really increase the asking price so the 95 should be far cheaper? Although the insurance costs will more than make up for any savings on purchases so yes a standard UK car will be cheaper 2 run & u have a blank sheet 2 do wotever mods u fancy Shouldn't be 2 concerned about high milers if they have been well maintained although b aware that 90k service is a BIG BOY if that is due (bargaining point i suppose ) But i suppose if the asking price isn't a big issue then i'd go terzo style Just my initial forts but it realy depends on wot it is u seek & price differences & wot u can afford as 2 wot best deal is but a basic inside in2 me head, b afraid

What's your budget? I'm sure we can point you in the direction of a few other examples

From those listed number 1 is the way to go.

I'd hold out for a lower mileage Terzo. It's the right colour, with the better interior and is post facelift. The 97 will be pre face lift, and they have a poorer interior.
IMHO the WRX with it's mods is a great car for an enthusiast with the skills or cheap contacts to maintain it properly. That may well describe you, if so then why not buy it.
I have a car which was modified by Litchfield, and I definetly wish I had more technical knowledge and ability to look after it properly myself.
I see a lot on here about running costs being high. Personally I havent found this. If I was doing a high mileage, then my STi would be garaged 5 days out of 7 in favour of a diesel barge.

I agree. Personally, mileage rules the roost for me. What sort of money are we talking for the above?
Whats your budget? There seem to be a few nice examples in the for sale section.

Id go for the '98 R reg UK, silver, 40K, fsh, PPP which will have the new shape dash and get them to change the cambelt which will reduce the cost of the 45k service as the cam belt is the main cost of that service.

Servicing is also done on time so if its a 98 it should have already had the belt done last year. Please correct me if I'm wrong as my my99 with 18k is having a new belt next week.

If its done to the book ie every 6 months then yes the cambelt "should" have been changed.
My car has been done on milage alown so every 7.5k with an oil change in the middle.
Acording to my Subaru dealer most people have their car serviced on milage not on age though it should be which ever comes first.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes, number 1 sounds the best bet, although I phoned back and its not available anymore, the woman who was selling it is letting her brother take it to live in Spain. Doh!
Swinging in favour of the Terzo I think.

I agree with the views on mileage but if I don't have it done assume (£200 for the belt part) I will no longer have a Subaru approved FSH. Now as I see it cars like ours are not woth much without a FSSH.

Lowest mileage always wins (assuming it hasn't been clocked). Demand ample proof of mileage, ie. service book (look at cover & make sure it is not a duplicate book), MOT certificates, etc.

I have a MY00 with over 82k on it now. TBH it's no different now to how it was at 40k. The only thing (touch wood ) that's gone wrong with it is an oil seal on the rear diff (10 quid seal, 150 quid labour ), and consumables (tyres, brakes, etc.) I did treat it to a new clutch a couple of months ago, but again that's a consumable.

Langy, no its Icy, formally of the Cruiseboard.co.uk fraternity, currently of the "RWD Cosworth" fraternity, and soon to be of the "****, now I can actually accelerate into a corner in my Subaru" fraternity.

I know its a buyers market lads, and I was set to get a silver low mileage '98, but unless I actually travel to the other end of the country for one, its looking pretty grim.
Doh! If only they'd made the Terzo in a one-off kind of silvery colour, then I wouldn't have anything to moan about.

Icy.
