Angry

So pissed off with my WRX (MY01), i wonder if anybody else has suffered with there car.

Here's the list of defects i'm currently having to put up with:

Gear box rattles on overdrive in 3rd gear. The noise is quite noticeable from inside the car.

Engine is consuming 1ltr of oil per 6000 miles. IM said this is normal, Listers said something is wrong

Clunk from rear when braking.

CEL comes on (cam sensor fault). Sensor has been replaced, no joy. ECU been repleaced, no joy. Wiring harness has been checked, no joy. Still driving around with CEL coming on.

+ i've had a new clutch and flywheel at 7000 miles.

+ numerous rattles from dashboard that can't be identified.

This is my first and last Subaru!

1 litre of oil every 6000 miles is pretty good going!

Any idea what the clunking noise could be when i brake?

I get it at relatively low speeds (5-10mph).

You should be gratetful you got a new clutch; IM said no to me (even though it juddered like a bar steward after 5,000 miles).

Sold the bloody thing back to the garage in June and got the skyline instead. Thing that makes me laugh is that they still haven't sold it on!

I know how you feel. I bought my car 3 months ago and so far...

New turbo
Replaced power steering gasket
New radiator header tank
Rocker cover gasket leaking
Clutch pedal only returns half way
Running at a pathetic .5 bar of boost on a cold day
Car stalls when cold
Car idles too low when warm
Drivers door lock/handle wrecked by hopeless car thieves
Boost gauge keeps sticking at -.5 bar

It may be an old import but ffs, the car i sold before it was 4 years older, modified and thrashed for 4 years. I had nowhere near as many problems with it.

Time to buy a better car i think, and it won't be a Subaru.

i am suprised that you are suffering - it is uncommon for scoobs to behave in such a way from my experience.

i would insist on further investiagtion as i have never heard of any car using that much oil being described as normal-not even a blo0dy old ford anglia or some'at!

my 93 wrx does not use anything.

does it smoke?

weava

eited because i though the post said 1 litre every 1000 miles

Unhappy

Mark (Mr.M),

Try another dealership, they might have other ideas on the problems. You're still covered by your IM warranty after all so it doesn't matter where you go.

Sorry to hear you have problems.

Squizz.

I've had Subaru UK down from West Bromwich to look at the car and they've tried all sorts of things.

... but IM still don't do anything about it.

Reject the car under the sale of goods act - not fit for purpose.

Or at least try.

depends dave, if i am doing a track day, i change the oil before. Typical senario for me is change the oil friday, drive to the ring, spend 200 miles giving it some, drive home. So thats 1400 miles. I'll then run it until my next track day is due and swap the oil, probably another 2000 miles. I dunno, maybe less. (i have a big collection of oil cans in my garage.

But in that time, i dont use a drop of oil, i check it every weekend. My sport never used a drop between services, which were done every 7500 miles.

My westie used to eat more oil, but it was a cossie turbo engine, and they do when you nail them.

The oil situation is definately worrrying!
My MY01 has never needed a drop added between 7500mile services...should never have wasted a tenner on a litre to sit in the garage

I'd fight to get the clutch assembly replaced. Mine was done at 33000miles, no quibbles, and has made a huge difference (no judder at all).

I think it's pretty normal to develop a few rattles in any non-German car, particularly a driven hard Scoob. I do my best to ignore the few rattles mine has but to be honest, the exhaust drowns out most sounds anyway

My only gripe with the car is the windows are always needing adjusted to eliminate whistling at speed.

Maybe you've just been unlucky with your car and you should perhaps take Alexs' advice and pursue a refund/exchange.

Merry Xmas,

Paul

Im with John on this one, my scoob doesnt use any oil inbetween services, i would be upset if my car rattled severly or if my gearbox was knackered though

I'm on my third scoob and so far each one has had a clutch. This is normal i'm told !! all done under warranty.

Only other faults I've had is broken alarm on the first one, problem with electric window on th RB5 and the headlight seal on the current car UK300. Picking the new seal up tomorrow

Other than that nothing !!!

Oh I was asked if I drove the car hard as this may be why the clutches go !!!???? I thought I was driving a car that should be built for this.

Please don't go on about 4 wheel transmission this that and the other

Wink

Steve,
Its to do with the 4wd stuff
But having 3 clutches for 3 cars
Still on my first clutch and ok it has a very very slight bit of judder which i drive round but apart from that it gets ragged whenever i can and after 29k shes still running sweet
The only real problem ive had was that the pipes to the wastegate needed cleaning out, other than that no problems in 31 months of ownership

Its worth reading up on the internet abou the sale of goods act.

I've read a few websites and it could prove useful in giving you some help and advice. The major bits I read were

1. If you are not happy with the goods, make sure you have said so but also make sure you continue to say so. This way you make it clear that you are not accepting the goods as suitable otherwise it will make it difficult to rejext the goods should you want to reclaim your money back.

2. The garage/dealer is the company you have the contract with, not the manufacturer or another garage. Unfortunately, this may mean you have to deal with IM in your case.

Sorry about your car though. Its cr@p when it happens - make syou fall out of love with your car and makes you want a new one.

Hope things turn out better for you.

I took my car in for recent work and the steering made a whining noise straight after driving off from the garage upon reaching the first roundabout (totally unrelated to anything I took it in for) - took it back and it needed a top-up of the power steering oil/reservoir thing. Also get wind noise after closing the window, which can be instantly cured by opening and shutting the door

On balance I am more than happy with my 01PPP + loads of mods. Sure I've had a few rattles, and a clutch, but apart from that it's a wonderful car IMO.

I'm on my 4th new Turbo/WRX. No hassles with any of them really. Duff clock on the first - dealt with in August '94, poor horn connection on the 2nd, duff CD player on the 3rd and sod it, I've got a stone chip on my 02 WRX after almost 7.5K miles in just over 4 months. Might try and reject it on that basis... ;-)

By the sound of a couple of the cars mentioned in earlier posts, you'd think they were made by Seat...

Cheers

Plenty of happy Scooby drivers around Jonathan! At least I notice you now infer that Seat quality is poor...

Still no probs with mine - except for that one stone chip! ;-)

If you actually read the threads Jonathan - the only guy that's unhappy is the original poster. Nothing here to worry about in the rest and certainly none of the multitude of common Seat probs. No need to list them - most Seat Leon owners are only too aware of them...

Hi to the guys in www.Seatcupra.net

Cheers

Best cars I've ever owned, and most of the owners I've met feel the same way!
