Let's all use the BBS to talk down the value and worth of the Scoob.
Example.
The price is collapsing.
Clutch judder
piston slap
cost of servicing
poor servicing
not as good as they were etc etc etc etc
I posted a thread earlier about how much I enjoy mine. If people don't like them that much sell them & stop whinging. Scoobs are'nt the only cars that cost or cause probs. Just spent £700 on my wifes car (A-class merc only 3years old) as a couple of things went wrong. I adit its helpful if people post things you can look out for yourself but sometimes its all just sooooo negative.
Anyway

Well, I will then
You know they also have a problem with Fuel Surge
Perhaps because people remember when Subaru could do no wrong, the residuals were amazing, the waiting lists were very long and Subaru won the JP Power survey every year? It's only natural when things are not as "good" as they were that people will be disapointed and will always be comparing things now to how they were when they were better, it's human nature. It was always going to happen and people need to live in the real world where things change, often not for the better. It's real life and you have to deal with it!

Hmm what about the other manufacturers, Vauxhaul, Fjord, Peugot, Citron, Rover. Ill have the Subaru please.
Subarus are very robust strong powerful good looking cars, its the novelty factor that most people loose after spending time repairing them that causes all this negativity, they would feel the same if it were a Skyline, Evo, whatever..... and theres no point in saying that those other cars are any better just look at their technical sections of their forums and you will see the same complaints.
If I gave my car death on several nights and then the next day or even a few days later the engine 'let go' When I was doin 30' although Id love to blame it on the ****ty Scoob engine, I would know deep down that its down to my neglect, whether it be because: A} I dont have Det precautions (Bigger Pump, Water Injection, etc)
B} A lighter left foot (limiter bouncer)
C} Correct oil
D} Correct Fuel
E} Modifications with out any thought (Air Filters, Dawes devices etc)
In fact oil, Ive got Mobil 1 10/50 in at the momment and as i will be doing an oil change soon I thought I would ask a few local bods on there opinions. First I went to Subaru, they said shell Helix, I said which one, they said 10/40. I then phoned up a good pal whose a Scoob breaker and told him what oil i was running he gasped and said way too thin and to use semi synthetic, he reminded me of his rallying history and cars that hes serviced without problems. I then went to my local Autosave and again theres a man there who Enters into the Snowman Rally and has done for years and he reckoned millers 10/40 semi would be fine.
Each time I spoke to these peeps I mentioned the great oil debate on Scoobnet and how, Motul 300 Comp, Mobil 1 10/50 and Castrol Rs 10/60 are the recommended. I still feel none the wiser, but im wanting an oil that will keep the engine a bit quieter than the it is with Mobil 1.
So if Sub Uk use Shell Helix what Sti/Subaru in Japan use ??

it's funny though, you never hear anyone complaining about the overall experience of owning a "classic" shape scoob do you ??
I wonder why that is then

Alas
We are at one with each other. I too have just spent £700 on the wife's A Class.
Point is, all cars go wrong. My previous car, C Class, spent more time in the service bay than on the road. Bought an MY98 a year ago, and to date, not one problem.
Andy.

had my myoo for 9 mths now, and still lovin it just as much as the first week when im normally bored with a car by 6 mths.
And as for probs ive had sh1tloads with other cars including a brand new escort si where the gearbox fell out ( yes fell out) after 4 weeks.
The only complaint ive got with the scoob is the infectous modddiiinnngg!!
ra jaay, my local dealer says only use castrol gtx magnatec, so who knows whats best?

Alas, I agree! I love my MY02 WRX, and I suspect that the zillions of us that are enjoying them aren't griping. I actually like the look of it's bug eyes and I prefered the chasis to the classic (taste I agree) and have enough power to have fun. I don't care if some other cars are faster, if absolute speed was my only criterion I'd be on a bike.
To be honest, until I'd actually been in ScoobyDoo555's car a year ago I'd not have given Scoobies a second look thinking that they were less than a looker but just a five minute ride in Dan's car made me realise what a great car they are. I have now got the WRX and the other half has a MY98 Sport with 100,000 miles on the clock (it had 90k a few months back!) and it goes great and has cost sod all to keep going. My experience with most Subaru dealers has been great and am treated better than I've been anywhere before whatever the car etc.
I guess that I must be a satisfied customer then!
:-)
Mike
PS. Friend at work has UK300 and loves it to bits, no problems either!
Edited to add that I had clutch judder on my previous Legacy and it was fixed the next week, no hassles. :-)

all cars are trouble its cheaper to go everywhere by taxi, had cavalier sri 16v they had manufacturing fault of pourus head which causes oil and water to mix and you need a new head DAMNED expensive had cav turbo blew two engines in that DAMNED expensive as well now with the impreza touch wood itll be allright but i think im allright as it has only covered 20k and i only do 3k a year so i'll be unlucky as f**K if i **** the engine in this

I've done over 160,000 really happy, trouble free miles in 4 Scooby Turbos. I've never complained once. Loved every second. Now if you want to hear me moan, I can tell you all about the 9 month old Seat Leon Cupra I sold after 9 months...
Cheers

If anyone's interested in the Leon, it's still available at the dealer - 17 weeks on. I understand they'll let you have it for £4K less than originally priced and £2.5K less than they gave me for it... :-)

Well fantastic!!
Glad to hear there are some others like me that actually enjoy the car. After starting the thread I was expecting the ( well you have'nt had the problems I've had) brigade. As I said at the beginning if you don't like it - flog it.
Unless of course you now tell me that values have depreciated so much you can't afford to.

Aye well, ive only had mine for 6 months but it will be up for sale at the end of January, compared to my previous cars my Sti RA is waaaaay ahead but the need for more drives me onward and 'redward' (see the bank for further details!) Im gonns get me one of those R-33's V-spec, not for a year though but its definately on the cards. I was in speaking to my local Nissan Dealer which is right beside the Scoob Dealer, I thought I would find out if Nissan are as stupid as Subaru Uk with regards to parts and servicing of my potential Skyline. He was honest and said 'well although we dont sell the skyline here and dont see them that often, we would be happy to get parts and service it when needed'. That was good enough for me, although in the past Ive done my own servicing it was reasuring to know that Nissan would be on my side rather than shutting the doors and holding up crucifixes. Now, I understand that Nissan dont make the Skyline here (Bar 1 outlet) so thats why its no skin off their nose. But I do resent Subaru not giving me parts like: Alt Belt, Power Steering Belt, and other various parts that I had numbers for, their not interested because I dont have a Vin number, yet I can go down Halfords/your local autostore and pick up a belt no bother. Without Subaru JP theyd all be working for GM or Fjord or some ****e, im not asking for a new gearbox or complete engine rebuild or ****ing Kyrponite just a glorified elastic band with a nice plaidies stamp on it ffs !!
Anyway getting back to the point of which ive forgotten now ....... yeah theyre fun cars.

Hi Toonman, another deserter from the Seat Cupra, like me then, I had no major faults with mine other than the pandemic wet rear carpets... but ended up getting rid of it after 6 monthss as I found it pretty horrible to drive.....I notice Chins is over there having a poke at us quoting threads over here After how many scoobs Chins, I dont know, must be the funny season, come back here for a flaming M8.!
For the record and at the moment I have no problems with my scooby and the service from the garage I bought it from. It is also great to drive.

Hi Scoobycar
I was in here before Seatcupra.net, but had hassles with the Tiscali email, so had to re-register. I still frequent the Seat site, although I've just resigned as a Moderator.
My Leon Cupra was also crap to drive and a heap of unreliable junk to boot. Unlike Jonathan, I'm only on my 4th Scooby, but also unike Jonathan, I tend to keep my cars 2 years on average. I've done 160,000+ reliable and happy Scooby miles since April '94.
Cheers
