Hey everyone, I'm new here so sorry if this isnt the best topic section to put this in but anyway.
I am thinking about buying an Impreza Turbo. I dont want to spend more than about £8000-£9000 so obviously I will be looking at imported ones. What are your oppinions on this? Is this way not enough money to spend or could I get a good import example for this? Any help appreciated.

AS with all things, Jimmy, yer gets what yer pays for!! You ought to be able to pick up a decent Impreza for that sort of money, though I expect that the price differential between Jap, Euro imports and UK sourced diminishes quite rapidly at that sort of price. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of 2/h markets will take that aspect up. You don't say very closely what you're looking for, so it's hard to advise. Good choice, though, and get ready to grin from ear to ear!!

Had an Import for 2 years, Fantastic & no problem getting bits.
Check your Insurance before you buy, Imports tend to cost more to Insure BUT you get a lot more car for your money. DONT be put off by your first quote if its high, some firms are plain stupid with the quotes, look under the Insurance forum for advice on who to approach for a quote & shop around, they can sometimes vary by thousands.
If you can stretch to a STI you should, the rides harder but its loads more fun for your money. The figure you are mentioning you should be able to get a good 96 STI. Its also a good market for buyers at the moment. Lastly take someone with you who knows Scoobs well when you go to look & I dont just mean a mate who recons he knows.
I note you post from Southampton, their is a fairly strong local group who post on Southern so if you need help post there

Not sure y u say obviously imports thou as i got a UK MY97 over a year ago for 10k & imports r as i understand it 20% higher than UK uns even if they do have marginally more punch
& insurance aint too kind on da JDM (japanese domestic market b4 u ask
) although i am contemplating getting a type R STi next year which i believe does 0-60 in 4.6
so that shud keep my greed in check 4 a while

I havent looked at the going prices for a while but just assumed the imports were a lot cheaper (perhaps that was cos I was comparing them to main dealers. An import place near me had a realy ropey example of an import for about £7500, but it sounded rough. I think it needed its wheel bearings looked at or something and was a bit of a state. Thanks for the help I'll check out the AutoTrader website and the drivers club and see what I can find.

Don't forget to factor in running costs like petrol; it seems to be a major gripe on this board.
If you drive like a big girl, 25mpg should be achievable.
I can't seem to get more than 20mpg at the moment, but these wet roads are too tempting to play in.
Also servicing costs are generally pricey compared to the typical Dagenham dustbin (no offense Ford owners

I just bought(last week) a UK MY96 5 Door (leather/sunroof) from a main dealer with 60,000 miles for 7K-fully Subaru approved. Seems like a good deal for the overall package including breakdown and warranty- takes away some of those first year worries. I looked and found some private sales for these early cars as low as 5K- with big mileage. The Jap cars seem to be around the same price maybe 10% more - my insurance quotes were at least £500 more though or I would have bought one- maybe u could get a UK car and spend the cash saved on getting the prodrive pack. At least then you will be able to use the dealer network- important to me as I don't live in England.

Ive got an MY97 UK Model that I need to sell in the new year and it would be within your price range. Its a splendid car but a new one awaits me!! I am gonna put a spec up in the for sale section nearer the time but if you want the spec let me know.

Import one mate, you save more money if you do it yourself. You can get a real nice one for that sort of money. Go check my wrx in the members gallery that i imported myself and it was much cheaper than the money you have!
For your money, you can get a real nice import. Drop me an email if you need any help
