The dreaded once over was due today,so off i went to get it over with.Handed over the key's on arrival and watched with everthing crossed as the guy stuck the probe up the afterburner system, did that then checked the rest of the car over.Came over to me and said sorry mate a couple of problem's,sh*t i thought i'm gonna have to change the exhaust back over, but no firstly one headlight bulb needed re-seating for alignment, and then GET THIS your sunstrip with subaru logo on will have to come off because of new regulation's,anything that come's within the wiper sweep is illegal!!!
Blame the "nova" driver's he said throwing 18 quid's worth of my car in the bin... because they cover half there windscreen in sunstrip's you guy's with neat looking one's now have to suffer.
Anyway got the magic piece of paper and off i went...
Mike..

Not that unbelievable.
I know of several people who have failed their MOT because the boost pod they had on the A pillar obscured too much of the driver's visibility!
I **** you not.

Me too. Mine had to be done this week, both my headlights were out anr the Sunstrip was "encroaching into zone A". Rear number plate lights were dead too. Didn't know I had any or the point of them for that matter. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Took the sunstrip off myself and then back again to get the lights sorted. How light is it in the car now!

something should be done though about the different standards in each MOT station. I had been failed for a really tiny hole in my old celica's backbox and after a week one of my mates passed his Lancia Delta with a hole caused by rust where the right sidelight should be.

I asked my Neighbour about this
he said its utter nonsense, failing cars due to sunstrip in the way, there is no regulation against it as far as he knows
he certainly wouldnt fail any car with a sunstrip

Last year one of the fail points on my Scoob was due to the radar detector bracket which I'd left attached to the windscreen. The other points where due to loose anti-roll bar links

Gunner, You must of had a **** of a Tester, My GSI has one,(A Nice carbon Fibre replica) slightly smaller than my fellow nova boys ones but it past and its 6" in depth, unless the tester was over 6 foot tall ?
What you doing with a boy racer accessory anyway ?

ok its in section 8 of the manual
sub section 3
basically there are 2 areas of the windscreen
zone a is the area within the swept area but directly above the streeing wheel and the same width as the steering wheel.
zone b is the rest of the swept area of the windscreen
in zone a, any damage, sticker or obstruction which encroaches by more than 10mm is a fail
in zone be they must encroach by 40mm to fail
so in theory a sunstrp should fail if it encroaches more than 1cm in the swept are in front of driver
simple answer as taught on tester's refresher course is fit shorter blades for the test![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
re the rust issue
in the lancia's case was the side light loose / missing or was there a jagged edge or was the rust within 12 inches of a suspension/ steering / seat / belt mount? if not then unless it seriously weakened the structure it would not be a fail
the toyota would be a fail as any hole before the last box/ or the last mounting if after the box is a fail. however as long as the echuast is solid, any such hole can be repaired with paste etc. added to which if it was catted, it would probably fail the lambda ratio part of the test if it was leaking

also just to add
i'm sure any car i tested "would have had short blades fitted at time of test"![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
and
if a car needs and passes a cat test then in my opinion the exhaust isn't leaking
