I had a MY97 for three years and a MY00 for nearly three years. Reliability has been appalling in six years I have had the following problems:
1/ Radio cassette rewind button failed
Would never have a Scoob again 'cos they're so unreliable
Cheers,
Ian.

You cant blame Subaru for making an unreliable car if you start to mod it,if it became unreliable isnt that then down to who ever did the mods.
Uk Subarus are 214bhp if you try to get more from it then youve got to expect some risks...if you dont mod them then they are usualy very reliable..yup you get some lemons but that life.

I've had my Impreza for 5 or so months and I've always regretted changing my last car for it.....until now. I've spent a fair bit on mods, I've had lots of problems with it and generally the scooby has cost me and continues to cost me a fortune. However, I'm stuborne and stuck with it and I have now got everything IMO working well and have a car that goes, stops and handles well. With more money it could of course be made to be better but I'm very happy with the way I've got it set up now and in real terms its far superior to my old car and indeed most cars on the road. What more could you ask

so "scooby no longer" why create a brand new username about a car you have got rid of . You do know you cant change usernames and have to create a new one . At least Saxo boy had a saxo when he came on here . Even though he wouldnt have it that a scoob was quicker .

nice post edit shocker!
Sorry mate, too late, everyone knows what you put first. 3 years with a car you hated, how sad is that?
Touchy about our scoobs? Not really. It's just getting very boring reading all the negative comments from ex owners. Most owners love their scoobs to bits, that's one reason why there are over 10,000 member names on this BBS and the SIDC has such a high membership.
The purpose of this thread was what exactly?

LOl!
so when's this thread going to get muppetised then?
Ive owned my scoob for 31 months now, the only problem i have had with the car is that the wastegate pipes needed cleaning, all of 24 quid from a dealer so it must be really unreliable
No doubt for 3 years you really hated having a scoob and due to you not able to afford the car you needed to keep it for 3 years otherwise you would have been out of pocket
Get a life you MUPPET

The saxo is a great car IMO and if your only turn on is dry performance than in the bangs for bucks stakes it has impreza's more than stitched up IMHO. My beef was when it rained and the fun stopped
I never said the VTS could match scooby's. The first time I played with one it was a real eye opener to the lack of difference between cars. The guy in the scooby had given me about a 2 bus length start on the motorway from a roundabout and I could see him start to gain on me (standard classic btw). I thought, 'here we go, I'm going to get eaten alive' but by the time I'd got to the speed where I thought I should back off he hadn't caught me. He made ground obviously but was punished for letting take such a lead. At least he eat his humble pie and didn't scream past at a stupid speed like a BMW driver might have. Scooby drivers are generally very well behaved and friendly in my experience.
That was the day that I realised you really do need a big power:weight advantage to thrash another car. It works the other way when Impreza drivers expect to get thrashed by a 911 but wonder why they don't.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your scooby mate. It can happen like that sometimes, you get a pig in poke and hate it forever more. My advice is be patient. My VTS was in and out for months getting warranty work done and I had a huge fight with Citroen to get a faulty gearbox replaced. It was worth it though because once the teething troubles were sorted the car was ultra-reliable and also a very quick standard car. The scooby is the same, patience has prevailed..............touch wood

UK99 turbo owner for 6 month and I'm still finding out what a well balanced car I now own, undoubtedly the normal day to day running costs are slightly above par but the benefits payback 10 fold.
If you are not happy with a vehicle (any vehicle) surely you would get the dealer you purchased it from to rectify the issues or change the car.

Saxo is not a great car. We have one driving around my local town and it sounds and looks like a hairdryer.
My first car was a nova sr and looking back now it was foul and would be ashamed to drive it. Get in the real world saxoboy and look back and admit it was a french sardine can like 99.9% of people would. Subaru is not the greatest car in the world but is far superior to that maxpower tin can.

Ok, I'm looking back.....I'm thinking. Hmmm, the Saxo didn't chip so bad on the motorway, bits didn't fall of the Saxo, the Saxo's paint work was better, etc - need I go on. Go down to a local dealer and play around inside a new VTS and you'll be amazed at the amount of small things it has that the scooby doesn't. Simple things like better lights, better windscreen washers, side airbags, oil temp gauge, etc - for their sins the french have been building the VTS/R for so friggin long they have got them up to a pretty good standard. The scooby uses better more touchy-feely (I'm talking classic scooby btw) plastics but often isn't as well screwed together. 'Screwed' being the correct word by the way - it amazes me how much of my Impreza can be taken appart with just a philips cross-head screwdriver
I prefer the scooby but most of this is for reasons of performance and the extra space, 4 doors, etc. Oh, and then there are the seats and the sound of a full-decat

One thing that really hacks me off are 'badge-snobs' that slag off their previous car as soon as they get a new one. I thought the VTS was an awsome car for the money they cost to buy and run and won't bad mouth it now that I have a better car. Similarly if I got an E46 M3 tommorrow I'd still come on scoobynet and still defend the scooby saying its a good car IMO. But, if I had a **** car then I'd equally say that too.

I've posted 2 threads on here in the last couple of days.
1. How much I enjoy the Scoob.
2. Woe, woe & thrice woe. About how much some people seem to like to whinge about the Scoob.
As i said then, if you don't like it sell it and stop whingeing. I come on the bbs to learn about the cars and for matters of interest. Not to listen to whining. I get enough of that from the dog when he wants a walk.
Good luck m8 you've sold it. As a matter of interest tell us what wonderful 100% reliable non cost car you've bought in its place?
