Firstly i must add that this is for advice only.. i cannot say what people should do or not do...
Anyone who has a full decat and normally gets their car MOT'd carrying their cat pipe in the boot etc ...
The goal posts are moving in january and you might want to get your car MOT'd this month....
I have been informed that as of january all cars tested for emmisions during MOT testing(that will be everyone then) will have the data sent through automatically to the DVLA? by the tester stating Pass/fail...
MOT testers will no longer be able to 'just pass' cars that SHOULD have cats...

Obviously a donor car could be used but we wont go there!!!

The MOT station should keep a copy of the printout when your car "passed" it's emissions test, these can be checked by the Vehicle Inspectoate.

Even if it does all go online, there's still ways round the problem

[Smug mode] Easy solution - have a sports cat in the downpipe, like me [/smug mode]

Or sell the car before it gets to be 3 years old

Here's a better idea, just change the exhaust a few days before the test. Worked for me.

Just had a chat with my next door neighbour about MOT's

He told me that the new system should have been in last year, but got delayed, he doesnt know when it is coming in (at least for his garage anyway)

He also said that once this new system comes in, you wont just be able to change the things that are wrong (ie like the sunstrips) and have it checked and passed straight away

The car will have to be booked in properly again and is supposed to go through the full test again !!

He said that this will probably mean no more free re-tests (like he currently does)

Basically all garages will get a swipe card, and will be fully computerised for MOT's, and that each time a car comes in you have to swipe the card, and this goes off to DVLA? (wherever) and it is logged how much time is spent on the car too

I guess one way would be to swipe the card, wait an hour, do the re-test on the failed parts, then swipe out again

Or... swipe the card.... Take your tester up the pub for an hour..

Some cars will JUST pass with full decat but it is tight and definately not as easy as with cat/s in place..
A guy on here only just failed by with full decat, however afaik if the car has had a good run (caning) it should drop emmisions??
Anyways.... if i turn my fuel pressure right down (regulator) i wonder if it will pass easier?? food for thought...
