Hi,

I'm looking for an RB5, and have been offered one from a dealer. Its £15,500 and has done 25k miles. Aparently its 'spotless' but ive not seen it yet.

Is this a good price? I'm a bit scared of a £16,500 loan to be honest, its more that I wanted to spend. (xtra £1k to cover the negative equity in my current car )

I would say its a bit pricey

I was getting a full Prodrive one for 13k, then the b*st sold it to a dealer for 12 !!!!, whilst I was drawing the money out of the bank

there are a few going cheaper than that

look around

I just got a MY00 from a main dealer for 12999 two weeks ago. I know the RB5 looks great but is it any different to my car apart from alloys and colour?

If it was the Prodrive, I guess it would be worth it.

Should be even less if it is a non Prodrive one!!
IMHO you may be better off buying a WRsport model and paying a bit extra on insurance, you WILL end up modding it one day
It looks as though you are willing to pay good money anyway, get a WRsport, pay a bit more insurance OR get a normal RB5, 6months up the line pay more to get a Prodrive spoiler and a ECU tweek..
all IMHO not nessecarily your opinion..

On the loan front, get a quote from www.alliance-leicester.co.uk using their loan calculator. Tell the dealer what your monthly payments will be on that loan and watch them sweat as they try to get near it!!!

They can usually get within ten pounds a month of that figure.

On the car price - it's their worst time of year for selling cars, you should be able to get a good deal if you haggle! I would be trying to get them to write off the full amount for your old car.

neil_s2k - To me, the RB 5 has, over a std car:
A nice colour,
17" wheels, which I also like
air con,
colour coded door handles, mirrors and sills,
driving lamps rather than fogs,
nice leather seats,
and its a bit more unique.

Ive seriously thoght about a std turbo, but its proving hard to find one which has air con, and colour matched mirrors and door handles at least.

If you are gonna buy a UK car then you should get something a bit different IMO, how many RB5's do you see on the road??

You try and find an RB5 like I did, far more std Turbos about than RB5's
and IMHO better, lower mileage newer, still under warranty etc etc , oh and much cheaper too

A non prodrive RB5 isnt that much dearer on Parkers price guide

the ones that subaru had on their website were 17 grand for non prodrive

If you can find a WR RB5 then get it over the "standard" model.
Insurance wise though, both are group 18 (unlike the MY99 which was a 17) and alot of people who bought WR's paid nothing extra over the non WR car.

You will want an MY00 if that was the case, this was standard on those models IIRC.

Question

Do you really need air con though? its not as if we all live in california innit?
As for 17`s, you`ll find some 2nd hand if you look hard enough, or just buy some other 17`s brand new for less than a grand.
Don`t pay over the odds, you`ll just end up lying in bed at night thinking "wish i`d got a cheaper one, now i can`t afford an exhaust" etc etc etc

I was lucky mine came with 17" Prodrive PD7's I think they not speedlines

all MY00's come with colur coded door handles & mirrors, but not side skirts or rear spats, but they can be done for under 200 quid

also they come with map reading lights, don't get a numbered plaque tho (but then again the P1 doesn't either )

Formerly neil_s2k!!

Yes, I got a/c, body coloured mirrors and handles, side skirts, rear spats, mud flaps and a cd changer thrown in.

I wasn't looking for an Impreza turbo at the time, I was actually after a replacement for my 1 week old S2000 (it's a long and painful story!! ) I just couldn't resist the Impreza at the price It'll make a far better winter car than the Honda anyway!

Sod's law says that if I had been looking for one I wouldn't have found a deal like that from a main dealer!!!!

I think it was the last of the classics - MY00 only I think. I've seen MY99s with black handles and mirrors.

Right, just been trawling thru subaru website again.

Now I know dealers are expensive, but this is the best car I can find: DBM, £14,995, 26k Romford (Essex)with air con and its a MY00.

This is the cheapest, lowest milage MY00 with air con in a nice colour, in my price range in the country!

Makes the RB5 at 500 more look like a good deal to me. Dealer prices suck **** basically. And I cant be bothered with private sale and selling my sport.

Why not just buy a new one from Europe for that money

The RB5 is way overpriced IMHO

There are far more than that for sale

check autotrader (lots of dealers have them)

Subaru's sale website is months out of date, most cars prolly long gone

Lots of private for sale too

check Adamsons in Northwich, they sell 3-4 scoobs a week

STi wanna Subaru - I dont have time to waste with tyre kickers. PLus, how many of you would choose cashmere yellow? Exactly, I like the colour but its not going to be easy to sell.

Also, your missing the point. I want/Like the RB5. I dont like the new bugeye. (Sorry )

Its not a case of more money than sense, but at this milage I think its OK. 22k miles is nothing. I think its a fair dealer price for a clean UK car with low miles.

Ive seen the way you lot throw cars round track he he! At least here I get a worthless 12 month waranty to comfort me ha ha
