Is it possible to get any decent mileage out of the import STi's then? Not too long ago there were quite a few posts on here about them going ban g at 30K or there-abouts. Is this really common or were they the exceptions?

Icy.

My STI 5 has covered just over 50000 miles from new. It has been in the uk since new and have followed SUBARU Japan service intervals, 2500 for every oil change and 7500 for normal service. It is recommended that you use fully synthetic even by subaru japan 15w-50 preferably BOXER OIL which unfortunatley we dont get. It is specialy formulated for horizontally oposed engines such as the scoob. The only problem that i have encountered is the MAF sensor which has failed on me twice. Appart from that i have been using SUL and Octane booster and Optimax and NF since it was available. As long as you have a KNOCKLINK and LAMDALINK fitted to monitor detonation and A/F ration you are ok. I have also kept the car std which helps. Most people have had failures due to mods ie de-cat pipes, induction kits etc which all require ecu re-mapps to sort out fueling.

Regards

Mines an sti4 and is running beautifully. De-cat over 10k ago. No problems. RR tested at 50k giving 305bhp, 260lb @ 4250. No remap. No knocklink. All standard. It baffles me why people tread so carefully around imports and then get a standark UK and mod it to the hilt at huge expense just to get near the performance that an Sti already offers.

go on....buy one!!!!

I've got an STi3, Imported last year with no history.
I've done about 25K in it this year alone. It had a full cambelt service as soon as I got it, and has been serviced every 10K since. It's totally standard, runs on SUL/Optimax,

Absolutely no problems whatsoever, still runs like a dream.

I too have a MY99 STI-V, Like Sonics car its covered just over 50k, again imported new in 1999, I change the oil myself every 2500m using Castrol RS10/60, I've not had any major problems, my car is running a fairly healthy 321bhp and 299 ft/lbs of torque, Linked, APS induction, Fully De-Cat, always run on Optimax and NF octane booster, used to use millers before NF was readily available - 2 bottles per tankful (Millers).

But I wouldnt consider 50k to be high mileage for a 4 year old car.....
