Does anyone else have ali bonnet, boot lid, no sound deadening, blistering acceleration and a top end around 120 - 125 MPH ??
If you do, what car have you / we got ? Please don't provide links to the SIDC FAQ as this keeps telling me it's a standard WRX. I have compared it to a fellow owner's MY96 and it left it standing!!!
The spec tells me that it's an RA but the GC referes to a WRX. It's badged as an STi but has not got the red manifiold etc that you would expect to find. I have seen some posts regarding some rogue spec'd imports, acn any one shed any light as I don't know what to advertise it as in a pending advert.
Cheers
PS : Is there a list of models Vs Engine Numbers as opposed to GC ?

Sounds like a Type R to me, going by the 'no sound deadening etc'
Could be an older Jap one methinks as badging / identity could often be a little vague.
I used to have a 94 WRX STi mk1 and they apparently werent very well known. No STi badging on boot, only thing was front badge was the 'I' but not in pink as the later ones were.
The applied model number I also couldnt match up to anything on the SIDC FAQ etc.
Ive got another couple o links to other identity sites, but Im at work at the moment so havent got them here...
Will post again tonight...

The first STi's were regular WRXs from the production line (hence the same applied model code), and were modified after production by STi.
My guess is that it's an early RA model you have, with the mad gearing.
You also have to remember that it was also possible to order new cars with different parts from the options lists, so you can get RAs with bits they shouldn't have as standard.

Thanks for the replies all. Further details about the car :-
No ABS
Wing mirrors are black with red metallic fleck as body !!!!!
2 Door (so not type R)
No diff control
Are these 'versions' more sought after than the usual WRX ??
I will try all the links and re-post later this evening / in morning
Thanks
PS : Doug - will keep in touch and see if we can help each other discover what we have.

2 Door (so not type R)?????????
2 door so it IS a type R.
They made them from late 96/97.
Can't be anything else if it is a 2 door turbo. Unless someone has made one from a non turbo.
Post a picture.

Boots aren't ally BTW
1) Firstly obtain a fridge magnet
2) Secondly place on boot
3) Thirdly, if it sticks, its steel

I take it its de-limited?
112 may look like 120 on an over reading speedo.
Just a thought

Boots can be ali. Very early RA's had them. I had a 93 red one. First of the coloured RA's. Until then only a handfull had been made and they were only available in red. The only marking on the car anywhere was a very small RA sticker on the back lower right of the car. No radio / spots / aircon / speakers from the factory. No ABS. No boot liner. Thinner than usual roof lining. No sound deadening under the bonnet. Smaller black intercooler. Water spray. IE: everything you would change for rallies is missing. You would spec your own intercooler so they give you the cheapest option availabe. 19mph @ 1000rpm in 5th. More or less equivilant to 4th gear in a normal WRX.

The boot is def aluminium, if not some other light weight metal that a magnet will NOT stick to
Has your got a spolier as I have seen a few early RAs without spoliers ?

I must apologise but this is a 'group' reply to all :-
Now I think of it the roof has always seemed thin!! The car had spots, air con, ew to 4 doors and a jap stereo.
When i got it, it was fitted with a ver. 4 spoiler but it is def a retro-fit.
Does anyone know an approx 0 to 60 time for an early RA ? ALso how do I upload photos because I am not sure what a 'standard'intercoler looks like, so I will post some pics.

Sorry also forgot to mention that the power split was checked and calculated by my local servicer and a boffin type and it was found to be 55% Front & 45% Rear and the back seat will not split. Sure I have read somwhere that this is comon on RA's as it helps to improve the stiffness of the rear of the car.

Mine has a V4 spoiler on it as well
. 0-60 isnt normally that good as it tends to require 3rd gear to achieve it where as other scoobs can just do it in 2nd (one less gearchange). 0-100 times are good though
. Must say 4.48 is very good though and I would settle for that
.
All the STIs (and the UK RB5 as it has an STI shell) have the solid rear bulkhead to add stiffness and non folding seats.
