Hi every one!

I should be receiving delivery of my first scooby (MY02 WRX) soon, I cant wait, however i need some advice on the following:

i. Running in the engine: Ive been doing a bit of reading on this. Do I keep the revs between 2000-4000 for the first 1000 miles?

ii. Ive been surfing scoobynet for a few weeks now and have been reading stuff about allowing the turbo to cool down after a hard drive. How is this done, and for how long?

iii. Whats the best type of fuel to use for the MY02, Super Unleaded or Optimax?

Got my MY02 2 months ago. Ran under 4000rpm for first 1,000 - giving the odd full throttle blast tl loosen things up. After 1,000 - I gradually built up the revs. Mileage now 2500 and feels better, wouldn't expect it to loosen up fully for 6-7000 miles or so though.

On fuel, this is an emotive issue on this bbs. My car is PPP'd and is pretty sensitive to fuel. It hates optimax but loves Esso SUL. From what I hear and from advice from the dealer, this goes against the norm but nevertheless its true

Cheers

Matt

Mat - I see your from Nottingham, did you get your Scooby from Beechdales?

I've had mine for four weeks now (also MY02 with PPP) and it seems pretty happy with Optimax, only had Optimax in it and one tank of Texaco SUL when I couldn't find Shell.

Think I'll give BP SUL a go as that seems to be rated.

Regarding running in - done about 1800 miles and its certainly freeing up but I stuck to the advice of the dealer and was gentle for 1000 miles and didn't keep at constant speeds for too long.

Certainly nice to open it up now!

Regarding letting the turbo cool down...........buy a Turbo Timer, Turn your ignition key and get out/lock car and when the turbo has cooled down then the engine will turn itself off

Yes alway let the turbo cool down after a run. I had a RS turbo with 98000 on the clock and still the orignal turbo, power engineering were taking bets on when it would go. But some sh*t had it away before we could find out

I did get it from Beechdales yes, - great service. Don't know what the problem is with optimax. Put 2 tanks in it from different garages and both terrible. I can only describe the experience as when you get the ppp fitted the car appears to feel stiffer because of the extra torque. With optimax this feeling disappears along with some performance - feels like a standard car.

My car is at the dealers now being looked at. With Esso SUL it goes like smoke.

Don't get me wrong though, the dealer said that this is unusual - thats why they are looking at it.

PPP transforms the car IMHO - hope you are enjoying it

Mat,

Yes loveing the car but its my first Scooby and had the PPP fitted from new, never been in another Scooby so can'r compare the before and after for the PPP - all I know now is that I love it!

Filled up with BP SUL this morning to see if there's a difference on mine!

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I had PPP fitted after 3 weeks of ownership - BIG difference. Let me know on the BP super - works well on mine - felt better more or less straight away but took a tank or so to get fully up to speed.

My first scoob too - the missus says I'd sleep in it if I could - its great

Cheers

You should notice a difference with the engine at 10K+

I've only been on this forum since March but this must be the tenth thread on running in that I have read - they all say pretty much the same thing.

If you need anything further, you will find all you need to know by using search.

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you all.

I've had my MY02 WRX for 7 weeks and am now at 7,000 miles (!) and it's only now started to loosen up. FWIW, I've ended up going Optimax as it gives extra zip, much more noticable than BP SUL. I'd stick to under 4,000 rpm, maybe you could send the missis to Edinburgh then Padstow to run it in for you - it's so hard to keep under 4k!

:-)
